Dude, it's a SERVER. On 2cpu.com someone states that these drives are Fujitsu MAP drives and they link to Here. I can't verify this, but those drives sell for $477 this is an amazing deal to get a dual Xeon MB and a 2 ghz xeon chip tossed in along with everything else for nearly the price of a single drive.

I'm trying to justify buying this to serve up MP3s on my home network, but I'm still working up my wife speech....

The advantage is you can't build a server to these specs at this price. Just the 2 73GB SCSI drives will take you past this budget.

Damn, couldn't resist and jumped all over this deal!

I'm thinking of unloading my Xeon 2.0 and going for dual Xeon 2.4. But I'm so damn broke, I may need to sell one of the 73GB U320 to fund the dual 2.4

I may need to sell my Inpiron 8250 too. You guys are making me broke!

Sales tax is 8.25% for me in CA though.

I envy you guys who don't have to pay sales tax to Dell SB.

Dang, only three months after I got a dual capable SC1400 with two 36GB U160's. Some luck. Oh well....

The drives are fujitsus. The machine is rather loud, but not any louder than my AMD box with an old pep66 and delta fan.

The only thing I chose was the 73 gig drives, and I still end up with $748.00

Now if I chose the 36 gig drive that comes with it, I do not get an option for a free drive unless I chose the 36 gig 15k drive.

And I get a total of $720.00 which I know minus the MIB of $100.00 would be $620.00
I made sure not to select even a keyboard of mouse...

What gives??? What am selecting or not selecting that I need to select.

Better than what I get. I get a total of $1,099.00 before %15 off and 100 MIR.

I am close to purchasing this system... without a real reason to, just can't turn down a good deal.

What are opinions about the following observations:

1) with only a 8mb ATI video card (non-upgradeable) you probably couldn't use this system as a server for multiplayer LAN games... I bet a lot of games wouldn't even run with only 8mb of video RAM. The game would give you an error message...

2) 128MB obviously isn't enough RAM so you need to buy some more registered RAM. Registered RAM would not be useable in any other system, would it? In other words, you are purchasing RAM with limited utility. Down the road you couldn't plug this RAM into another mainstream system.

3) What about the possibility of upgrading the MOBO to one with an AGP slot?
How does the Xeon react? How easy would it be to move the SCSI to another MOBO? etc.

Someone stop me before I spend the wife's birthday money.

Did you guys upgrade the memory to 256 megs of RAM???
Maybe that is where I went wrong. It said it was free though.

You won't see any diff on the site if you upgrade the RAM to the free upgrade, but you won't be able to use the $100 rebate.

Not that this isn't a bad deal (It's really REALLY awesome deal), but What would you need a machine like this for? I have a dually PIII 1.0ghz box and it does everything i want it to do (web server, ftp, mail, file server, mp3 server, etc) and it has plenty of power to spare...

(Just trying to justifythe expense...)

Just to make sure, these are socket 603 400mhz fsb procs, not the 604pin 533mhz ones?
