It's a longshot, but since the initial PowerEdge 1600SC page still quotes a price of $549 after $250 instant discount, you could try calling up a Dell rep on the phone and ordering that way. They just might do a price adjust of $150.

I'm definitely tempted, but I need a new workstation, not a server. But if it had an AGP slot, I'd be in.

This probably reminds a few peeps of the Gateway 6400 server deal of way back, except that you can trust Dell to fulfill the order.

I just called - for an SC600 RAID1 with 2x120GB IDE - and the sales rep did honor the deal (had to bring it to the supervisor though). For the SC600 he will honor the quote I got at least for today(see that thread). I'd suggest you call and try the same for the 1600. (...mine was saved this AM in the shopping cart and I had to get approval... and now I can't order it anymore ... )

you can get 73gb 10k sca hot swap drives for ~$160, and the cpu for $190, granted youll never get the going rate for either.

160x2 + 190 = $510

the case ram and other junk $150

$660 and thats on a good day, plus you have to wait for the rebate. sorry not hot for me at all. a good deal if you wanted a dell server anyways ... but not worth buying if you didn't need it imho.

Where are you finding 128MB ECC Registered DDR, a decent server chassis, a 48x CDROM (Black), a floppy drive, and a nice dual-proc server motherboard with onboard U320 SCSI and gigabit NIC, plus all the other little stuff I failed to mention? I priced it out at Newegg, and it was definitely just a bit over $660...

Can anyone recommend a good PCI video card for this motherboard. I just picked up a 512mb ECC registered pc2100 memory chip for $70 and now all I need is a video card.

Where? Are they U320 drives? I'd really like to know.

The Fujitsu MAP drives that are coming with the 1600sc are over $400 retail. You don't think someone could sell theirs for $200-$250?

I'm not 100% certain, but I remember seeing a post about ATI Radeon 7000/9000's working with this motherboard. It's probably in this thread somewhere, I'm just too lazy to look.

EDIT: Here you go: http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/Developer/VisualWorkstation/PCI/index.shtml
And apparently the ATI 7500SE and the ATI 9000 are compatible.

Is the Radeon 9000 the highest performance PCI card (for gaming) available? I can't seem to find anything else higher than that really. They have it at newegg for 96 or 97 dollars. Wondered if you could get a 9500 or 9700 in PCI ?

if you add a good 450W power supply (which is what the 1600sc comes with), the total would be over $700.

Thanks for the heads up DaSkiBum, looks like that Hercules 9000 is the way to go. Good info there.
