Where did you go to get the 512 ram for $70? =)

Can anyone recommend a good PCI video card for this motherboard. I just picked up a 512mb ECC registered pc2100 memory chip for $70 and now all I need is a video card.

www.bananapc.com

Just got off the phone with them and now they are telling me they are out of stock.

That thread is still somewhere around. Seen it earlier today. Have you tried a search using DELL or CELERON or SERVER?

For those of you waiting for systems to ship...

Snow and icy rain hit Austin (Dell HQ) today, so there are very few employees (if any) at Dell today. If you call to check on your order you'll get a recording that Dell employees are not there today due to bad weather.

The system I ordered was in testing yesterday. Its still in testing today. Oh well, maybe I'll see it sometime next week...:frown:

I was wondering why the second system I ordered has been sitting in "boxing" since last night. The other system I ordered sat in "boxing" for about 30 minutes.

It's dead now, i think. Even though Dell said that their $250 instant off expires on 2/26/2003, they changed it to 100 off.

I ordered on Sunday and it still says InProduction. For some odd reason Dell order status doesn't update for me. When I bought my LCD it never left the Order Processing stage even when the monitor appeared at my doorstep. How do you guys check the order status?

I ordered one Saturday, and got the confirmation email, yet my order status has said Dell has no record of my order. Ive seen on the FW forums word that Dell has been cancelling orders, but if you ordered yours after me and its in production, it gives me a little hope.

I tried to call today and got the "no one's here" message, and I sense I am going to be on the phone for hours fighting to get Dell to honor this deal. I am a little ticked off because I actually had plans to use this server, and not try to make a buck off it on ebay like many ive seen. Ive got 68 members of a gaming clan waiting to use this and Colocation space already reserved, with Crucial ram and a second processor appearing at my door. Im looking forward to explaining this and trying to RMA

ive heard yes and no. some say they have to be the same stepping, while others say they even run different speed xeons in their dell. I didnt want to pay dells price for a second cpu, so i'm willing to give it a shot.

I think we need to get the heatsink and clips separately. I read that on the Dell forum. If we don't get the right Dell parts, it won't be mounted securely.

From the Dell Forums...

These are the Dell part numbers for the PowerEdge 1600 SC heatsink:

7R181 Heatsink Assembly (Includes heatsink and fan)
83MGJ Heatsink Clip (2 required)
Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355

You can't just use a standard HSF for it? Wait...Xeons are not Socket 478 or 370, right? Do Xeons take a special HS?

Not that I'll be needing one anytime soon.

Hey Guys make sure that people that bought on the 24th on are getting the mail in rebate.
Looking at the packing slip they might have changed something.

From the Dell Forums...

The boxed processor's heat sink sits properly on the processor but the plastic clip extends way left and caused the hood to slant. Also, I couldn't find where to plug the fan. I ended up ordering a heat sink and clip from Dell.

Intel Xeon (Prestonia ) 400MHz FSB = 603 Pin
Intel Xeon (Prestonia B) 533MHz FSB = 604 Pin

Does anyone know where I can get the manual for the 1600sc online?

Links would be appreciated. I tried to find it on the Dell site, but I guess I'm too stupid/impatient/ugly to find it.

I'm just so excited! I just can't hide it!

My best friend and I are going to make a Battlefield 1942 server out of it!!!

Thanks in advance,
Sam

PS: The Xeons are 533mhz bus right? I wouldn't mind the 400mhz bus, but it's obvious which one I would prefer

http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/pe1600sc/en/index.htm

When I click on the link it redirects me to a generic support page. So I figured I should log in. Then I got the following message -->

We apologize, but we were not able to find a valid computer system related to this account. This may have occurred due to our records or your personal profile being incomplete. Please provide us with your service tag so we can customize your support page.

Of course, I don't have a service tag yet 'cause I haven't gotten my server.

Anyone want to email the manual to me? My email address is in my profile.

Thanks,
Sam
