ordered one Saturday, and got the confirmation email, yet my order status has said Dell has no record of my order. Ive seen on the FW forums word that Dell has been cancelling orders, but if you ordered yours after me and its in production, it gives me a little hope.

I ordered on Monday afternoon; same thing - yesterday the web site didn't recoginize my order. So I called in and the rep confirmed my order really was there (the automated phone "check your order status" worked also). The rep said the storms were playing havoc with their computer systems intercommunication; the web site couldn't talk to the order status systems.

So my order was there and in the system - try the phone system's automated "check my order status".

From the Dell Forums...

These are the Dell part numbers for the PowerEdge 1600 SC heatsink:

7R181 Heatsink Assembly (Includes heatsink and fan)
83MGJ Heatsink Clip (2 required)
Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355

This should be a stupid question.
Someone mentioned the retailed version heatsink works properly. So does it mean that if we have a retail box version, we only need to order 2 clips from Dell?
And what about the fan? where to install the second one.
Thanks.

just as an fyi for anyone else waiting for their order on the 1600sc to show up online.

I talked with Dell today, and they said that because of the bad weather, many of their sales reps havent made it in yet to pull the online orders from the printer and generate order #'s.

so apparently, my rep is one of the last to make it in

they said to hang in there and it should show up soon.

Mine finally shipped. Got a tracking number today.

Looks like the bad weather log jam is finally breaking up...

<edit>Looks like Dell sent it via FedEx 2 day service even though I chose the free 3-5 day when I placed the order.</edit>

What? Man. I wish my order shipped that way. I ordered Thursday, it shipped Friday, didn't leave Texas until Wednesday via Fedex Ground. My second order didn't ship until yesterday, and they still shipped it Fedex Ground :|

Dell sure is milking that snow storm. Mine has been in "production" for 6 days. All I need is the 40GB removed and the two 80s added. No OS, no Ram, no other drives... How long can that take?

Sheesh.

Tell me about it. I ordered mine on the 23rd and it's still in the "In Production" phase.

I'm getting anxious 'cause I really want to play with my new toy!!!

I wish I could... I ordered the server on 2/22 and my order has finally moved to 'being built'. But I still have to wait about a week til I get it.

I'm still trying to figure out the CPU part. I want to sell the 2GHz chip and buy a pair of 2.4GHz. I'm wondering if you can up the bus speed to 533MHz. Also, can you get matched steppings from google gear, or even dell for that matter if you order the CPU's at the same time, but not as part of a system?

Well my 1600sc finally arrived today. Dell really did ship it via FedEx 2 day even though I ordered it with the free 3-5 day shipping. Guess they are trying to make up for all the weather related delays.

After all the instant rebates, coupon codes, etc. I spent some of the money I saved on the 3 year parts waranty (only $50 more) and added a few options. Got the hot-swap SCSI chasis and the raid card, but after hearing some of the hastles getting Dell rebates I probably should have just taken the 2X RAM. I'll send the rebate form in and see what happens.

One of the form members over at 2cpu.com has posted some pictures of his 1600sc here

This thing is built like a tank. Its about the same width and height across the front as a regular PC but the case is much deeper. The front panel comes off easily by sliding one latch on the top. The thumb screws holding on the side pannel are at the front...nice not having to reach around back to open things up. 120mm fan in the front and another in the back. The fans are temperature controlled (can see the thermistor sticking out of the hub in the middle of the fan) and are pretty quiet. Most of the noise seems to be from the low frequency sound caused by the fans touching metal inside the case. If I remove the fans from the case (flip a latch and they slide out) then they hardly make any sound. Will probably try adding some small pads or washers between the fans and case to quiet things down even more.

The labels on the 73GB drives says they are Fujitsu Model MAP3735NC, Ultra 320 SCSI/SCA2/LVD (80 pin). Hot swap drive rails are heavy aluminum on the sides, steel plate on the bottom. LEDs on each carrier show drive status. System only came with carriers for the 2 drives, the other 4 slots are plastic filler pieces. Have to buy more drive carriers to add more hot swap drives. Drives are VERY quiet. Can only really hear them while they are spinning up AND have my ear near the front of the case.

I was worried this system would be loud being a server and all, but I've been pleasantly surprised. Won't have any trouble leaving it on all the time.

Ordered it with the minimum RAM. Came with one stick of 128MB made by Infineon. More RAM ordered from Dell (they have 25% off all RAM this weekend, discount shows up in your cart when you checkout).

Very happy so far. Now if that RAM would get here...

I'm genuinely happy for all of you that were swift enough to get in on this stupendous deal. What a deal...if I was just a little quicker...oh well.

I really like the description of the box in the above post. It reads like something that I'd type; very detail-oriented. Schaweet.

Best of luck to you guys. i hope to get in on the next awesome deal.

Never had a problem with dell rebates. In fact they usually come fast... On Par with Western Digital rebates... No BS to wade though... But, dunno about trying to get 2 rebates. I can't see that to be a problem since most business order mulit units to combine rebates. You should be good to go. I am counting on my rebate...

I had some fun getting the $250 rebate from the 1400sc last time this year. I moved between when I filled out the rebate and when they mailed it. It's taken a few phone calls, a fax, etc, but they've finally re-issued the check after saying they would three times over several months.

I don't think my experience is necessarily typical though. Just make sure and keep copies of all submitted materials and document the names/ID's for people you talk with.

Got my 1600sc today. It was actually 3-5 days quicker than Dell stated. I guess they pad their expeected ship times so they don't look bad.

Anyhow, I got Seagate 73Gb drives, not the Fujitsu. The 2x512MB wintech ram works fine. Need to start the customization process now.

Anyone interested in buying the second SCSI drive? Anyone have a spare Xeon 2GHz chip they want to sell?

I guess it's time to head over to the FS/FT section...

It's a very well put together server, all told.

Which 2.0GHz 512K Xeon did you guys receive? (sSpec ID, etc) Is the voltage 1.5 or 1.7?

Edit: Nevermind, should be the 1.5v if it's 512KB. I'm trying to match a 2nd CPU, but haven't yet received my box. According to Intel's site, there are only 2 2.0GHz 400MHz bus Xeon 512K's (one Boxed, one OEM).

Boxed:
sSpec# SL623
Product Order Code: BX80532KC2000D

OEM:
sSpec# SL5Z9
Product Order Code: RN80532KC041512

Those should be the ones to look for if you're shopping for a 2nd CPU.
