Ok I see where they were now.

I'll call this deal warm because a similarly priced system (using newegg) will cost you about $60 more.

Thanks for the post though.

It's a nice deal on a decent server. Man, these things sure have gotten cheap. Add 512MB of RAM and you've got yourself a nice Win2K Server machine for a small business.

Trying and trying but can't get a 64 bit PCI based system with gig ethernet using a P4 for $60 more at newegg.

What components are you using?

Is that using an Intel Gigabit ethernet adapter and a Serverworks motherboard with 3 IDE channels?

I still do not see the rebate form VALID FOR THIS PERIOD in the rebates area of Dells website. Although I see the "Customize" area where it says $349 after $50 discount and $100 rebate" but still no rebate form.....

I don't see the rebate form either. Looking here there are no PowerEdge rebates for this period.

not sure why everyone's having a problem w/ getting the price down to 304...

Anyways, I bought this server w/ the last deal where it came out to $350 shipped and am very very happy. Its a nice quiet server that I don't really need to mess with. I'm glad I bought it. Here's a review for those interested:

Dell 600SC

And no...you cannot build an equal system for less...believe me I tried and went through extensive research and you simply can't beat this price at this time...If you need a nice basic server I say go for it....

I'm using one for a Windows 2000 server now.
Rock solid...has been hosting my web/email for approximately a month now.

Throw in another 512mb and a cheap ATA raid card and you've got a decent server CHEAP!!

Isn't the ServerWorks CSB6 IDE chipset already supporting RAID?

The way I configured it made it sound like it didn't come with any of that.

I guess it's a good deal just for the motherboard but I'm sure not too many people here will have a use for 64bit pci slots or gigabit ethernet. Does this mean that this system is also a dual capable mobo?

I got one of these cases for a client of mine. It's a very nice system, especially for the price. I got this system in january, and it's been running like a champ. It uses the server works chipset, every PCI slot is 64 bit (but only 33 mhz, if i remember correctly) and comes with a 32bit/33mhz slot in case you wanted to add something cheap in there. The motherboard is not dual cpu compatible, as the pentium 4 class processors are not designed for dual cpu capability. You would need a xeon motherboard to go dual, and dell makes them, but not for the 600SC. Another great feature is the gigabit intel network card.

This motherboard also has 3 IDE channels onboard. and Can support 4 hard drives in it's bad, and has the option to store another 5.25" drive right underneath the cdrom (or maybe even 2, it's been awhile). If you wanted to do raid 5 on the cheap, you could buy 3 ide hard drives, put each one on it's own channel, and use your OS to make a software raid 5. If you do that, make sure you buy a really fast processor

You cannot really compare anything from newegg unless you factor in onboard gigabit networking, the 64 bit slots, and the serverworks chipset.

Some other great features with this computer is that it's very, very quiet. And you can install dell openmanage for administration purposes, which you can send alerts and do some neat SNMP stuff.

People having problems getting the price down should start out with the celeron version, which has free cpu upgrade to PIV 2.4
