Does anyone know how much power it draws on average? It has a 305W power supply, but I am wondering how much it will actually draw in a WHS-type scenario.

jesus guys. Unless you are running a 8 game server this thing will suffice. Slap on linux and you could host multiple gaming servers.

Dont get me wrong... Im not trying to complain... and it isnt a bad deal... But it definitely would be a benefit to at least include built in, low end RAID to something badged "Server"


All that said i have 3x 400sc towers that I paid very little for and they have run solid for years. (and yes, they all have add-in RAID cards)

This has no features better then any other desktop, its basically a desktop labled a server.

parts list:

E2180 retail box $69.99

512mb ddr2 ram $5.00, the 2gb for $25.00 total would be a little better

motherboard $60.00 at most.

cd-rom $5.00

80gb hard drive value $20.00, as i got a 200gb a month ago for $35.00 from staples, with no rebate, so its probably not even worth $20.00

Case/PSU $55.00 was the EA380 and 4480 antec deal from FRY's last week and it was $45.00 from newegg a a few weeks before that


thats $215.00 total, did i miss something ???

* How about showing a link to a $5 stick of any speed decent 512MB DDR2 (none of that Pricewatch crap). $13/shipped is the cheapest on Newegg, as an example.

* How about showing a link to a $5 CD-ROM drive, new.

No offense, but this server is a decent price for what you get, including an actual warranty from Dell (which includes on-site). Notice you didn't figure that in. Some small businesses don't have the people who can build a custom machine or the time. No need to poo-poo on this deal.

Not only that but this is server-grade hardware (or should be). That demands a premium because it is FAR more robust than any $200 desktop kit.
