PowerShell coming to Linux

Today, we are taking the next step in our journey. I am extremely excited to share that PowerShell is open sourced and available on Linux. (For those of you who need a refresher, PowerShell is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language built on the .NET Framework to help IT professionals control and automate the administration of the Windows, and now Linux, operating systems and the applications that run on them.) I’m going to share a bit more about our journey getting here, and will tell you how Microsoft Operations Management Suite can enhance the PowerShell experience.

I find it bizarre how some in the OSS/Linux community has reacted to this. A lot of whining, put downs and eye rolling. Just another MS killed my pappy moment I guess.

I agree. Just more of the usual rabid Linux users espousing "M$", "Microsucks", etc. It's unfortunate that it's yet another group of people that espouse being logical and rational, but often exhibit behavior that is anything but.

I for one am happy for the announcement. Powershell is a very solid scripting language in Windows, and I for one am happy to have the possibility of running some of my vSphere Powershell scripts on a Linux system. I hope this gets VMware to port PowerCLI to Linux as well!

I believe it mostly stems from those who attempt to protect free software and do not support MS in any shape or form and feel any support for their products supports their bigger wrongdoings. I wouldn't equate the Linux community with OSS community either really, there is a significant amount that reject OSS.
