powersupply problem

i just orderd an ECS K7S5A and Amd 1.4ghz athlon. I have an existing atx case with a channel well technology cwt-atx300 (300W) power supply. I checked amd's list of compatible power supplies, but it says mine is only good for up to 1ghz. Am i screwed if i try to use this power supply? What happens anyways?

Otherwise I'm willing to shell out for a new case but i'd rather not pay an arm and a limb for it.
Most of the cases people have been recommending have been around $100-130+shipping. This seems a little steep. Do I have no other alternative?

Also i would also like to hear what cases people like, and which ones gave the best stability for the price.

Probably you're not screwed, I never heard of a 300 W psu that works with an 1 G athlon and not with an 1.1 -> 1.4, so go ahead and use it

ya, don't worry, amd also said something like a 1.4 tbird needs like 350 or 400 W PSU...but there are numerous amounts off ppl who are running 1.4 and a 300 W PSU. I really don't think you'll need a new case and psu...seriously, the 300 W should be able to hold it's own...and seeing that you have the ecs...you can't OC that much anyways. Just try it, if you're getting reset problems or maybe some stability issues...or just flat out your computer is acting weird...then you should start worrying. If you are looking to buy a case and don't want to spend a whole lot...the enlight 7237 is prolly your best buy...50+shipping @ newegg.com....i also saw the antec midtower case...nice case as well...59.99 after 20 dollar mail in rebate @ best buys...not too shabby...case is originally 79.99.

why dont u get a separate psu? i geuss its cheaper then buying a whole case ..?!

Good afternoon,
The Enlight 7237 is arguably the best inexpensive ATX case. Couple it with a reputable 350W power supply and you should be good to go. Check out pricewatch for places that sell the case.

I cannot sufficiently stress the importance of purchasing a good quality power supply.

But what is really the worst that can happen if i use my existing powersupply?
Is there any possibility that i might damage any of my components?

I don't think so. An insufficiant power supply will only make your computer unstable (random reboots, BSOD etc) under stress. I say try it out and see it it is stable or not before shelling out $ for a new powersupply.

The worst...system keeps on rebooting, won't POST, Windows lock-up...but none will damage ur components. Just go ahead & try tht 300W PSU. My guess is it will work unless u've got an abundant of other components tht's power hungry.
