Powertoys for Vista?

I?ve been searching and apparently Microsoft has not released any powertoys for Windows Vista. I found the image resize tool available on XP very useful. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a free program that would allow you to resize images with a simple right clicking.

Apparently there is something in the works. In the meantime, there is a free photo resizer available:

Resize

Scroll way down near the page bottom to see the specs.

From what I recall, there won't be any "powertoys" for Vista... they have since been replaced with the "Ultimate Extras", which honestly right now are a lot more useless than the powertoys were.

I invested in Totalidea's "TweakVI." program. Very comprehensive, and designed for Vista.

VI

I used Tweak XP from Totalidea for years, and it was great.

I already have image resizing programs, but the thing is you have to open those, selected the image and so on. I was hoping there was something out there that just required a right click.

SunnyD, you're right about the Ultimate Extras being useless at this time, but maybe the resizer will come up some day.

corkyg, does TweakVI offer right click resizing? I didn't see that option/plugin listed.

I personally hate Tweak VI, not that some of the tweaks aren't useful but the app itself is just to much. I would prefer a new version of TweakUI.

I want a powertoy that adds all of the useful stuff back to Windows Explorer. Just an up-directory button would be nice.

Yes it does suck that they removed the toolbar, what a giant step backwards.

Completely agree with you guys. I looked and looked for the up-directory button and couldn't find it

Just click the previous directory in the address bar. You can go as far up as you like that way. I find the current system easier.

I also prefer the new system, although the up directory button was fine also.

Um guys ....you do realise you can now select any point in a chain of directories in the Explorer Bar (top) ...meaning you can now go up several folders in one step. A little more efficient than the old "up-directory" button. The side-explorer panel is also a lot more useful than it ever was

As to those missing the old "class" menubar, try hitting F10 - the "classic" menu bar styill exists ... it is simply hidden for improved layout

Oh, and till a new Image Resize PowerToy is released (the XP PowerToys were actually developed by Microsoft employees in their own time, thus they were never supported by MS at all), why not make use of MS Paint for resizing. Not quite as convenient, but saves waiting. But seeing as most cameras come with some sort of image-editting software these days, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an update to the old PowerToy at all

OK - if you really want to resize via a Right Click - then set up Irfanview as your default viewer, etc. with a JPG file association. Once that is done, if you right click a photo file, you will have a Resize option in Irfanview. It is a very powerful photo editor as well, and is free.
