OEM drives don't come with cables, but they are cheaper...most of the time.

As far as buying cables, rounded IDE and floppy cables are popular. They are pretty cheap from places like SVC.com too. They come in different lengths too. This is nice for better cable management and a clean looking case with good air flow. Lots of pretty colors too.

You'll also need a soundcard unless Abit fixes the problems with the on-board audio by the time you buy the motherboard.

SOrry this is probably a really stupid question.

Nope - not a stupid question. The retail version motherboards generally will supply you with cables as will retail versions of the hard drives and retail versions of an optical drive. (Note the "retail" there. OEM versions often don't include anything. If you are buying from newegg, look at the pictures they took of the item [one of the reasons I shop newegg so much] to see what you actually get.) Those cables will be the flat ribbon cable kind. They work fine, but restrict air flow more than the rounded cables. I also found in this particular case (Antec Sonata), since the hard drives mount sideways (with the back of the drive facing the opening of the case instead of the back of the case), routing the rounded cables around the drives was easier to do and looked better as well. I used the flat ribbon cables until the rounded cables arrived. I like to use the shortest cable lengths possible. Since I wasn't sure until the motherboard was in the case just what the lengths would be, I waited and ordered the cables after I installed everything. I mentioned the lengths I used just to save you some time there. Those length won't apply to a different motherboard and/or a different case.

The optical drives (CD-RW and DVD-ROM) will include a flat ribbon cable and an audio cable (3 or 4 wire). Some, but not all, will include the SPDIF cable for digital sound (2 wire). (I ususally have to buy that one.) However, what I found with the P4P800, the audio cable shipped with the combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive I bought would not reach from the back of the drive to the rear of the motherboard where the audio connectors were. It's 18" long - generally that's enough, but not in this case. I went and got a 26" audio cable from Best Buy. It's long enough that I can nicely route the cable from the drive to the motherboard.

Staples probably doesn't carry those. Best Buy has flirted with them and may have them. CompUSA does have them for sure. I tend to get everything of the internet. I bought mine from CoolerGuys.com because they are like 1/2 the price of the brick and mortar stores.
