I really REALLY want this game to be good. But from the previews I've seen it isn't looking all that great. RPS has a preview not long ago and they were far from impressed. They said the aliens didn't pose any threat and you weren't scared of them and the feel was just off. I hope that it changes because I really want to like and get this game.

I was looking forward to this too

I don't think he liked it...

Has a score of 45 on metacritic right now, lol..

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/al...lonial-marines

For Aliens: Colonial Marines PC:
If you toss out the highest(80) and lowest(20) critical reviews, the average is 42 with all remaining reviews between 62 and 25.

For Duke Nukem Forever PC:
If you toss out the highest(85) and lowest(16) critical reviews, the average is 54.89 with all remaining reviews between 81 and 29.

Granted DNF has more than double the reviews but still.

I just tried it out. Absolutely awful.

I can overlook a lot of things but it is the aliens themselves that ruin it. They look and move pathetically.

Isn't that the reason why they never showed Xenomorphs moving around in the first two movies? I thought I remembered hearing that they didn't because it would have looked silly.

I think I'll just stick to playing AvP2 if I need an Aliens fix. With how crappy Prometheus turned out to be I think this is an IP that needs to be put out to pasture.

IGN had the devs to a two hour walkthrough, and it looked like crap. And that was the PC version. Looks like the game was made 5-7 years ago. Not just graphics, but the gameplay just looked really dated.

One more game I don't have to watch and see I guess. A good game usually takes 2-3 years or so. 36 months I have heard is common. 5 years? Red flags.

You saw a little of them moving around in the second. The first one might've been referring to one particular scene that was cut out, where the alien did a crab walk and it did look silly. see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0QwLTLH1bg

Anyway, please don't buy this game. I wish I hadn't. They messed up everything they possibly could. The setting, the creatures, the AI, the gunplay. Somehow, they even managed to mess up the names of Gorman's squad on the lockers on the Sulaco. AvP2010 is better then this in every way possible, and I *hated* that game.

So Gearbox is kind of a random developer eh? They hit it with Borderlands, but completely crash and burn with DNF and now this.

Well, Gearbox took on a project that was practically already finished by other developers and then finished it themselves. Then, apparently this Aliens game was created by a different developer and not much was done by Gearbox.

I got the game for cheap so I took a chance on it, I am more interesting in the multiplayer as that looks pretty cool and from early impressions over the weekend from people that got it early, the multiplayer impressions were all in agreement from what I saw that it is sold.

I haven't played multi yet, will once I finish single. I played the first two missions so far. The game does obviously have issues, but imo it isn't as OMG horrible as people are painting it to be either. Graphics are weak, but funny enough the lighting is pretty good and that is usually harder to pull off. The AI is bad in a lot of areas. The aliens themselves look good though, but they move to slow and don't feel like a real threat which is sad. The audio is good though, a lot of sound effects and music that is ripped from the movies. Gameplay, yes it plays like an older shooter, but that wasn't a minus to me, hell the fact that you need to pick up armor and health packs is an actual plus with the everything regens games we get now. I'm a fan of the movies and you can tell the devs were too with lots of references and such and the feel overall is decent.

All that being said, since I only finished the second mission so far, I can't give a more in depth opinion, but if I had to I'd say it is a 6/10 game. For the price I got it for I can not complain, but it isn't a $50-$60 game.

Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Review sites are panning is as being terrible, or even "dreadful". This game is nowhere near dreadful. Rather, it's just a mediocre first person shooter.

I can think of many "dreadful" games. Aliens: Colonial Marines isn't one of them.

I'm so sad to see this is how it is....not unexpected, pretty much what I expected. Glad I didn't pre-order, pretty much have figured out you can't trust game companies anymore. It really surprises me that people still do... Guess I'll wait for bargain bin. Anyone think if they'd have just focused on single player instead of multiplayer it would have been better?

Great read over on reddit:

"Somehow the schedules for Pecan and Borderlands 2 managed to line up and GBX realized that there was no fucking way they could cert and ship two titles at the same time. Additionally, campaign (which was being developed by TimeGate) was extremely far behind, even as Pecan's Beta deadline got closer and closer. In April or May (can't remember which), Pecan was supposed to hit beta, but GBX instead came to an agreement with SEGA that they would push the release date back one more time, buying GBX around 9 mos extension.

About 5 of those 9 months went to shipping BL2. In that time, TimeGate managed to scrap together 85% of the campaign, but once Borderlands 2 shipped and GBX turned its attention to Pecan, it became pretty apparent that what had been made was in a pretty horrid state. Campaign didn't make much sense, the boss fights weren't implemented, PS3 was way over memory, etcetcetc. GBX was pretty unhappy with TG's work, and some of Campaign maps were just completely redesigned from scratch. There were some last minute feature requests, most notably female marines, and the general consensus among GBX devs was that there was no way this game was going to be good by ship. There just wasn't enough time.

Considering that SEGA was pretty close to taking legal action against GBX, asking for an extension wasn't an option, and so Pecan crash-landed through certification and shipping. Features that were planned were oversimplified, or shoved in (a good example of this are challenges, which are in an incredibly illogical order). Issues that didn't cause 100% blockers were generally ignored, with the exception of absolutely horrible problems. This isn't because GBX didn't care, mind you. At a certain point, they couldn't risk changing ANYTHING that might cause them to fail certification or break some other system. And so, the product you see is what you get."

Also a comparison of demo footage in 2012 to what the final game looks like:

You have to figure Pitchford is one of those guys with absolutely no moral center when it comes to business. This is the second time he's come out and promised the world on a game, and handed the world a pile of complete shit after the fact.

I assume that "Pecan" is referring to Aliens, but what exactly does it mean? Is it some internal name used to reference the game or something? While reading that blurb, it kept throwing me off; "Why do they keep talking about nuts?"
