I wouldn't worry about returning the PS2 if it's broken - it's not a hassle at all.
I ordered this deal from them right before Christmas (when it had Madden, NHL, and Kessen included). The PS2 worked for a week, then stopped reading DVDs. I called them up and all they needed to know was whether I wanted to drive the PS2 to the shipper or have them pick it up. All I had to do was put it back in the brown box it came in and UPS picked it up from my front door for me (Gamestop even paid return shipping). Three days later, I had another.
Overall, though, I really wouldn't worry about the quality of these. The reason I say so is that the early problems with broken used systems was NOT Gamestop's fault at all. While their QC is fine, it's Sony's that is subpar <plea> (Please, fanboys, don't let this start a flamewar - I'm sure Nintendo, Microsoft, Sega, Philips, Atari, Commodore, 3DO, Fairchild, APF, Magnavox, Mattel, Astrovision, Coleco, GCE and
any other company that I've forgotten to mention also have had QC issues at one time or another). </plea> MANY of the "non-r" Playstation 2s had problems with their lasers dying so that they couldn't read one type of disc or another, hence the "R" on the new systems, which denotes the revised laser assembly. <There have been tons of threads over this problem at the
CD-ROM Guide PS2 Forums over the last year or two (if they haven't been deleted because they're so old>
Chances are by this point that the majority of their stock is V5, since the V6 hasn't been around all that long and the V4s were probably sold off around the holidays. Since the V5s all have the new laser, I really wouldn't keep myself from this deal over the worry of the system not working. If your laser ever
does go out after the warranty anyway, you can always order a new one online for around 70 bucks and your total will still be only 320 then for a PS2 and two of the best games I've ever played
