My little update:

My order seems to have finally broken out of "processing" hell 04\04 - but MGS2 isn't being sent, just the other items - that one game is still in processing, so it appears it's not in their stock as of the moment!:| So everyone who is expecting your order should check and see if it's being shipped with their PS2 order...

I ordered Monday aftertoon and got mine today with 2 day shipping. Ain't too bad.
The system looks used. since it has a V2 board. (30001 U0 date code 0C) and the MSG 2 game didn't come with the box or manual just a DVD disc in the white papar sleeve. Everything works fine however. The warranty sticker has been removed from the back. Of course with this kind of old system I don't really expect any warrant...

I dunno, they keep selling them (there's another preowned sale this weekend) but people are talking about getting games w/o cases or manuals. I ordered last saturday, and everything was exactly as it should be.

I am glad to hear that people have been getting good units. Mine should arrive tomorrow (4/9) so I will follow up on Wednesday with my overall impressions. Hopefully I will have the same luck others have had.

I'm getting a little worried now, I guess this past weekend, my roomate was trying to watch some DVDs on it, and he kept getting disc errors from my ps2. I saw one myself last night, but it was after hte ps2 had been on the entire day, so maybe that's what caused it. Games and my [scratch free] DVDs are playing fine. I took all the stickers off it that designated it as a preowned one from gamespot too, so hopefully I don't have to return it

Received mine today, PS2 w/one controller, no manual, power cord, video cable. GTA3 had the manual, case, cd, and MGS2 had case and game. The morons at Gamestop shrink wrapped the controller right on top of the PS2 without any padding between the controller and case, ended up scratching the case.

Hooked it up and noticed games and the main PS2 menu are displaying in black & white!! DVDs play in color though. Very weird. Tried a friend's PS2 cable and got the same result. Also tried hooking it up to a couple different tvs, no change.

Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

What video cables are you using? I know if you are using an S-video connection you can get a blank + white picture if the cable is loose. Why the DVDs would be color then, I don't know.

I've tried both composite and s-video cables.

Gamestop sent me an email today and said to ship it back to them at their expense, gave me the Fed Ex acct # to use.

Sorry about that Happypants, the only thing I could think of was the s-video cable. Anyway, I got my unit on wednesday and everything seems to be working order.

Got the following in the box:
PS2
Power Cord
Video Cable
Controller
MGS2 w/ booklet
GTA3 w/ booklet
DVD remote and IR sensor in Box

Besides minor cosmetic problems with the unit, it appears to work fine. It is a 35001 model (so that is v4 right?). Played a number of DVDs and both games for a while and didn't experience any problems. My roomate and I are going to be playing as much as possible (we work different shifts so we should be able to get at least 10hours a day in) to try and see if we experience any problems, but so far so good.

But I just got one question for everyone, what crack smoker designed this console and put the power switch on the back of it. I mean especially a console witha pull out tray. at lease with a top loading unit you are forced to keep it in a more accessable location. I wanted to put in the entertainment cabinet with my other A/V equipment but I would have been able to shut it off. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

[edit]I just spoke to someone I work with and apparently holding down the reset button will shutdown (or put it in standby mode) the unit. So I guess my gripe is wrong. Still not very intuitive for those of use without Manuals [/edit]

overall i give a "Satisfactory".
I mean it would be MUCH better if they sent
all the copies of games with the inserts/booklets.
Without them, the resale value drops quite a bit.

Gamestop has a similar deal going on again. I'll probably just wait for GTA3 to come out on the PC next month, but I was sort of bummed that I didn't jump in on the last deal.
