I would appreciate any suggestions:

I want to configure a desktop/workstation for $2500-3000. I can not spend loads of time obtaining drivers and learning how to set up RAID so I want to buy from a pre-build company that allows configurations(if needed). I would ideally like the computer to last for 5 years(My current computer(which I had configured but this was a headache at times) was the same price and has lasted 5 years)

I work with digital photography and have to do many downloads from the internet. I use the Office Suite for my work(Powerpoint, Word, etc).
I want a computer that I can open 10 Internet windows open simulatenously and it does not blink.
I want a 20 inch or better LCD.
I may play a video game or two.
Ideally it will come with several years warranty and tech support.

Could somebody give me some examples of what I should buy.
Or even what company I should choose...ABS, Monarch, Micro, HP, Dell, etc.

Thanks!

In short: I would say Dell. Look through their new models and at their outlet store. Right now they seem to have alot of great deals going on.

I myself just purchased a Core Duo laptop with 7900 graphics and 2 gb ram with a 7200rpm hdd for under $1300.

I will not be an expert on the configurations you want but I can list 2 other companies to investigate.

Velocity Micro
KC Computers

ResellerRatings for Velocity Micro
ResellerRatings for KC Computers

I have not had experience with either one but both are highly rated companies. Talk to Kevin at kc-computers and Randy at velocity micro.

Randy's email: rcopeland@velocitymicro.com
Kevin's email: sales@kc-computers.com

Both are very friendly helpful people. I am sure if you email them both as a prospective buyer they will offer their insights and reply in a timely manner.

Velocity micros site may be a lot better than kc-computers but I would talk to Kevin before ruling KC out. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

Also I would suggest buying the 20" LCD separate from the computer company you settle on due to the fact you can probably find a lower price for the same LCD. (With exception to Dell as they usually offer their good lcd's at a good price).

If you want something that'll last, I'd suggest holding off until Dell rolls out some systems with Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processors. That way you'll have a little more time before your computer slips into obsolescence, not to mention better performance off the bat and lower power consumption.
