What other choice do they have? Rand Paul seems like the best choice by far of the GOP candidates but for whatever reasons his policies don't resonate with the GOP. He is the only guy that would come closest to a small government conservative out of all of them. I guess the GOP yahoos really don't give a shit about small government. I mean, Walker, one of the more popular candidates, is actually going around broadcasting that "we must reinstate the Patriot Act."

there are at least 15 candidates right now. If Jeb Bush can keep everyone in the clown car race, he could conceivably get 17-20% and win the caucuses and primaries. I think he will have to do very well in New Hampshire but I am not even sure where his natural base of establishment types will be. If Walker or Rubio picks up steam, they can blow pass Jeb. Jeb's interviews have come off as stuttering messes. He is completely rusty from years off the campaign trail.

Because unfortunately an awful lot of Republicans don't actually want a smaller or more limited government. They want a government that will make other people behave the way they behave, a government that better rewards them while punishing the people they don't like. Pretty much like Democrats, except the things these Republican actually want government to do are on balance probably even worse - they just don't affect as many people.
