I am actually very happy that Sony has humbled themselves and try to cater to the gamers, considering that their gaming division is not making as much money as they would like.

? Sony has always catered to gamers, their strategy hasn't changed.

Oh yes, I'm aware. I just thought that it was *extremely* generous of them to be launching a service such as PS+ despite their waning revenues for their games division. Kudos on them! (Also, I'm a first time Playstation (3) owner so I don't know how they were with PS2)

PREDICTION: There will be an Xbox One Dream Team releasing mods to override all the restrictions and limitations of the console.

The mod will probably allow users to dual boot to a hacked and non-hacked OS to play online.

The hacked OS will allow:
Play used games if they have the disc
Always off Kinect
Bypass security checks
The #1 reason why people will buy the Xbox One and mod it is to play "backups"

Yep. Unless MS changes their go forward plan, this is the most likely scenario that will drive MS sales of the Xbone. Then all the crazies here will be like "see you said the Xbone would fail!", when really it did, it was the hacking that saved it.

So it looks like people have been cancelling the Day One preorders on amazon as the console is available again and standard edition is nowhere to be seen.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Conso...s_videogames_2

The PS4 is pretty much flooding the top 20 with all kinds of bundles and games.

http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-v...=pd_dp_ts_vg_1

That means a lot of people have cancelled their X1 preorders for the Day One Edition to be preordered again. I mean all the people that bought the standard edition got moved over to the DOE one and they are still taking preorders wow.

I think its funny that people are making such bold conclusions so early in the game. There is some time before release and we have no idea what sort of DRM that the developers/publishers will require in spite of what Sony says now. I'll admit readily that on the surface the PS4 has a great advantage at the start, but only for those which consider used games of upmost importance and those who have unreliable internet.

I'd be willing to bet that there are a great many people who have reliable internet and have already adjusted to stringent DRM requirements who are simply staying silent and waiting to make their decisions later one. I'm one of them. I have never purchased a used game in my life and I have an extensive Steam game collection so there is nothing that MS is saying that I haven't already become acclimated to and many console gamers are also PC gamers.

Myself, while Kinect requirement annoys me I'm happy that MS providing a more well rounded HTPC-like experience in addition to solid gaming. $100 is too little a difference to keep people away if it provides better multimedia features. Both consoles are virtually equivilent performance wise and third party exclusives are going to be even fewer than current gen.

All that said, I haven't decided on either yet. Aesthetically I prefer the XB1, but as a PS3 user I'm used to PSN. Early preorder news also doesn't impress me because people generally don't represent the mainstream gamer. People who are more casual about it will wait until much closer when more information is out or simply way until release day and buy one. I don't mind waiting an extra week or two if they sellout.

Shit like this really shows how anti consumer Microsoft is. They really are treating the potential consumer as an enemy instead of a customer. Talk about a company being cocky and stupid. So many fucking rules. Anyone who supports this is and thinks this is good is an idiot. I hope sales plummet and puts them back into reality.

And it gets worse for on-the-go troops. The Xbox One:
  • Can play only in Xbox One-friendly countries. Even if you're lucky enough to have a regular, reliable Internet connection while overseas, you'll have to be in one of 21 countries included in Microsoft's server network. So, if you're stationed in, say, Germany, Italy or Great Briatin, you're good to go. But if you're based in Japan, Kuwait or Afghanistan, you're out of luck.
  • Will have region-locked games. Games bought in the U.S. can be activated only in the U.S. That means no more ripping open the latest title that just arrived in a care package from home while you're deployed. And forget about buying games locally when overseas - if your Xbox Live account isn't tied to the region when you activate a game, it won't play.
  • Serious security concerns. Even when the Xbox One is in sleep mode, its built-in microphone can always listen in. It's a feature developers say will provide quick voice-command access to games and apps - but that could spook commanders who might worry the always-connected device could also capture more than just idle chit-chat among troops
"Microsoft has single handedly alienated the entire military. And not just the U.S. military - the militaries of the entire world," says naval aviator Jay Johnson.

Just saw this and it reminded me...anyone see the article where the guy didn't see the hardware and followed the wires to a cabinet with a laptop in it? Then MS KGB swarmed him and took him to a side room and intimidated him into deleting the pictures?

This is where conceal carry comes in handy. Fuck your unlawful detainment.

Not even close. The PS4 has 50% more GPU cores, and it's memory bandwidth is 2.5x faster.

Yeah I agree with you. I should have been more clear I meant real world performance will be similar. Simply having more powerful hardware doesn't necessary automatically mean better performing games..i.e. cell chip. Most games for both consoles will be designed to run at 60 FPS 1080P with AA/AF and both consoles can do that with no problem. The PS4 advantage might translate into better AA/AF but again the average gamer probably won't see the benefits. I still know people who can't tell the difference between 720P and 1080P and that is more pronounced.

In California? Can't do...

Also If your XBL account is banned for any reason, including someone accusing you of cheating etc. you lose all your game licenses.

The difference will be noticeable in time. As more developers become accustom to the hardware, the differences will appear. Games will run better and have higher detail levels. It just takes the right developer.

At this point you probably shouldn't believe anything the Xbox Support's twitter says

MS can straight go to hell.

I said it in other forums already, they don't even know YET what's coming to them since in some countries, for example Germany, privacy plays an extremely big role.

People don't simply put a console with activated camera and motion sensor in their homes to "watch movies" or "play games"...without becoming concerned about privacy.

The funny thing: Those concerns about privacy and the XBOX One were already voiced BEFORE the NSA PRISM leak, before it became known that MS is secretly participating in data mining and profiling using their customer's data.

The sad thing, if I read on the web today that the XBOX One "knows how many people are watching a movie"...I am actually stumped because I really don't know anymore whether this is a joke/satire or actually the case.

Windows 8 / XBOX One / PRISM Scandal === Microsoft, one fail after the other.

one of the problems for MS right now though is it's not just nerdy gaming sites that are covering this MS debacle. it is hitting mainstream media all over the place. hell on sports talk radio yesterday, on the way home from work, on the 2 major talk shows i heard them discussing it lol.

This is exactly the point! We are not talking about nerd terms like DRM where the average Joe doesn't know anything about - we're talking about mainstream media coverage, eg. in regards to privacy issues. Huge deal in some countries.

To add to that, I see people in my FB feed discussing this (almost universally negative against MS) that I rarely if ever see discussing games.

The difference will be noticeable in time. As more developers become accustom to the hardware, the differences will appear. Games will run better and have higher detail levels. It just takes the right developer.

It might be the other way around, more like the PS3 / 360 at launch, but this time with the X1 having worse image quality and frame rates.

The PS4 demos were on real hardware and a real console OS (based on the crash screen captured by an attendee ), and it's been widely alleged that MS is months behind, frantically trying to get the pieces together in time for launch. That's why they needed high-end i7 - GTX 680 PCs for their demos.

If developers didn't get real AMD APU dev kits from MS in time, the X1 teams will be behind the PS4 teams on doing the optimzations needed to compensate for the low-end CPUs and low-midrange GPUs in the X1 and PS4.

Both will improve over time, just like the PS3 developers eventually learned to use the Cell properly. But at launch, we might see less-optimized X1 titles running on slower hardware, a double whammy.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if XBOne still sells well at launch.

Reddit and general internet still represents a very small minority compared to the HUGE casual base who will blindly buy the console. My few friends who do casual gaming are pretty oblivious to this and are excited about Xbox.

Also the outcry and the attention span is very short. It's only June now. When holidays seasons come, people will still flock to buy lots of consoles, including Xbox.

One observation I'll make is the PS4 seems, in Canada anyway, to be outselling the Xbox One by a decent margin. Most stores still have the latter up for pre-order while PS4s are already sold out everywhere.

Microsoft bombed hard with the Xbox One's DRM. However, none of that matters as this will be the shape of things to come for the next generation. We're all upset because I suspect most of us grew up during the golden age of console gaming, the era that spans the NES to the PS2. We're used to a certain way that things are done. We also have the disposable income to buy these consoles, which is why the PS4 will win this generation. It's a comfortable system for the old guard (us) to game on. However, I think Microsoft has some kind of long term strategy in play. Get the younger gamers used to these new policies for the eventual digital transition. Ninth generation consoles will most likely not use physical media and this kind of DRM/data mining will be the norm.

Microsoft's problem is they don't know how to market to consumers. I doubt they'd even know how to sell parkas to Eskimos. They let others define their product before they could. It's difficult to recover from that. Perhaps being too honest about the DRM was also at fault because it overshadowed their E3 presentation. Might have been better off to get some buzz around the system first and reveal it closer to launch. Regardless, the system is still a raw deal for consumers. The DRM will fall like a house of cards if it begins confusing the casual gamers. They're the industry's best hope for growth, and they tend not to come back if you anger them.

True, the Wii U sold well last xmas, despite its low power and lack of games. But after xmas, sales fell off a cliff.
