Not all mature gamers feel that way.

5 of those 8 titles seem more than capable of appeasing mature gamers, and the other 3 games, while good for younger audiences, look to be fun for older audiences as well.

I'll get a PS3 at some point but you better believe I'm waiting this one out until I know everything is okay with the system/drive. This goes back to my woes with the original PS (playing upside down ftw!) and the PS2 (disc read errors!) at launch and it's the same reason I waited on a 360.

QFT!

Dang, I totally forgot about those problems when I first got my PS1. Imagine explaining to my dad about why our new $2xx systen is sitting upside down while I was playing it. We later traded it in for the same system (dual shock box) and it worked perfectly for a long time.

I'm one of those mature gamers who is looking forward to Wii, because I love my Gamecube. And I love a lot of the games that are supposedly "kids" games too. I don't mind cartoonish graphics. I'd rather play Mario Kart than Gran Turismo because Mario Kart is just more FUN.

(Not that I don't enjoy GT as well)

I'll get a Nintendo WII when it is released and a PS3 about a year or two years after its release. I bought an xbox last generation of consoles and frankly, the playability of most games is relatively low.

From a consumer's perspective, I'm hoping for a 40/30/30 division of the gaming pie for Wii, PS3, Xbox360 in that order.

Yeah, I also see that happening. Sony won't have the huge lead as it has had the past 2 console cycles.

i havent read through all of the posts, but a Blu-ray player (not PS3) will probably cost over $100 more than a PS3 (possibly up to $800).

I've read this in Sound & Vision magazine, and they said that the reason is is that the stand alone players will have higher quality electronics....

anyways, sorry if this has already been stated.

Depends what you're ranking by, Quantity? Profit?

I think the Wii has some serious potential to win both. It's got something unique to offer at a cheap price.

In terms of sales, definitely Wii>Xbox 360>PS3. Who wants to pay what the PS3 is gonna cost when the X360 is just about the same thing?

I was really kind of inpressed by the Wii presentation today. I still don't like the name though. I want to play tennis on it really bad. I'd buy it just for that one game.

A $199 console at launch? I like that. And I heard that you'll be able to download games for older Nintendo consoles, though I haven't run across any info on that recently.

yea download old games. but its not free. i'm not sure thats much of a selling point since we all have snes/nes/n64 emulators that work great. and well. everyone i know that has those emu's really never play em.. its just fun to know that you can, not that you ever really will lol

I would pay $5 for a few snes games, especially squaresoft ones, that I could run flawlessly on my tv with a nice controller.

wii will sell the most number of units because everyone will either buy it as a primary system or secondary system. However, this might not reflect how many games will be sold per console, as everyone will probably buy a handful of exclusive Wii titles, and then a truckload of titles for their main system- and ultimately, it is the hardcore gamer that drives the market.

Last generation's launch seemed more intense, I know it's still early, but so far no games interest me in either 360 nor ps3.

Maybe the race will be much tighter. The PS3 might not be the dominance force as its older sibling, the PS2. The pricing of the Nintendo wii could be a hit with parents, $500 is quite a chunk. Just as the current gamecube, wii should be a hit among the younger crowd, and the PS3 and Xbox360 more toward the older crowd.

We'll end up with a PS3, but probably not until the price drops.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Wii for SSB:B.

600 bucks plus tax...plus a game and extra controller. You're looking at close to $900 for a ps3.
Btw, has anyone seen how much an xbox 360 bundle is at costco?

Its going to be 1K. Samsung's and Sony's player are avaliable for pre order via amazon and crutchfield.

It does make the 60 gig ps3 look nice but for sony I don't think they'd like it very much if people only buy the ps3 for the blu-ray. They are selling them at a lost and need those who buy the system to pick up games.

a standalone will probably see 15 to 20% markup from cost anyhow.

Costco.com link

I don't want to pay for shipping (tax is already enough). Do you think it is the same price at the actual costco store? If so, I'm sold.

Xbox360 > Wii > PS3

Here's my prediction: By the time the PS3 is released Microsoft will eliminate the Core Version of the console and drop the "Premium" (which will lose the moniker since there will only be one version) down to $300. Thus causing a $300 price difference between the 360 and PS3.

Wii will be the sales leader, followed by Xbox 360 with PS3 at a distant 3rd. PS3 will struggle due to an absurd price and a public that is 80% apathetic about Bluray, and as adoption of an HD format emerges, HD-DVD will take the lead based on the fact that it's cheaper, the quality is identical and the brand identity is clear and familiar.

Once Bluray support begins to wane as HD-DVD support picks up, PS3 will become the butt of every "Betamax 2.0" joke on the planet, and Sony will get laughed off the stage, broke.

Wii will be #1 simply because virtually everyone who wants a PS3 or 360 wants it as their second console and those who don't want PS3 or 360 still will buy Wii. Like DS, Wii will also likely attract many non-gamers with highly unique titles, and more importantly Wii will be home to FAR more exclusives than either PS3 or Xbox 360.
