I'm predicting Wii>360>PS3 depending on the launch titles Wii has. The key is having an outstanding FPS that, in conjunction with the controllers, can keep up with HALO3

Once Bluray support begins to wane as HD-DVD support picks up, PS3 will become the butt of every "Betamax 2.0" joke on the planet, and Sony will get laughed off the stage, broke.

Wii will be #1 simply because virtually everyone who wants a PS3 or 360 wants it as their second console and those who don't want PS3 or 360 still will buy Wii. Like DS, Wii will also likely attract many non-gamers with highly unique titles, and more importantly Wii will be home to FAR more exclusives than either PS3 or Xbox 360.

ya. but there's a lot of big names backing both formats. it seems like its going to be a battle and the consumer is the sore loser

Sony has staked just about everything on the PS3. Their Trinitron TV market imploded in the last few years, their walkman sales have been dead since the 80's, they're not a big player in the PC industry, their onetime cash cow Everquest was decimated by WoW, basically, if PS3 fails, I think Sony is going to have a giant collapse and end up getting bought up by Samsung or some other giant electronics company.

Their constant drive to be different with proprietary formats has always bit them in the ass, Betamax, minidisc, that stupid memory stick thing, the PSP movie format, and what do they come up with next, Blu-Ray.

The Wii actually looks pretty damn fun to play - and thats what gaming should be, fun, ...right?
If I can do to an Xbox360 what I did to my Xbox, I'll buy the Xbox360, but PC should really cover me for now.
PS3 = -$600 and Blu-Ray. eek.

I'd like to try the Wii out before I buy it though.

I agree, but I think they've made too many critical errors. To start with, the $600 price range *instantly* puts PS3 out of mainstream consumers' reach. The inclusion of Bluray is of *zero* significance to 80+% of the market who don't even have an HDTV.

My advice to consumers is to spend *zero* dollars on anything with Bluray or HD-DVD technology until the format war is done. Alternatively, if you MUST get one, get HD-DVD. The quality is identical and it costs half as much.

I might also point out that a lot of big names were standing behind UMD as a movie format just one year ago, and today they've all but entirely pulled out of the format.

I played Wii at E3 and it was a *blast*. I had more fun in the 3 hours I was in the Wii booth than I did the entire rest of the show.

IF Nintendo taps their target audience for the Wii,

Wii >>>> 360 > PS3

Nintendo is targeting the non-hardcore gamers. There's a lot more casual gamers and non-gamers out there than hardcore gamers.

Look at one of the most popular video games in history: the Sims and its numerous expansion packs. Why was this game so popular? Because it tapped into the non-hardcore gamer segment. It tapped into the market that's never been interested in FPS, RTS, or RPG games. Nintendo is targeting the non-gamer market. They want everybody and their grandma to want to play the Wii.

From what I've seen and read, they just might succeed. Even if the name "Wii" does suck. And I mean suck bad.

Seeing as I owned an Xbox this generation and absolutely loved the games and seeing how it will get more exclusive games for the 360. I'd have to say 360 > Wii > PS3. The Wii intrigues just because of the special controller. They need a Jedi Knights game in which I can control the lightsaber with the controller. I also look forward to playing older games from past Nintendo platforms.

My third cousin is VP of Sony Spain, and he told me that most of their income comes from professional markets (video equipment), and their consumer market is nowhere near as big as that. Not sure how true it is but...

DS Lite > rest

I don't even want a 360, the Wii sounds cool because of all the old school games and the PS3 is way to overpriced already.

Wii + 360 > PS3
The Wii and the 360 will both do better than the PS3 everywhere except for Japan. Just because Japanese people don't want anything to do with the 360. The Wii will be very competitive with the "Next-Gen" Consoles that will be coming out because of the fact that it isnt targeted to a small minority, but to most people. It is also cheaper, and therefore more appealing to those that do not have a console. This war is going to be a long and complicated war, considering Blu-ray/HD-DVD, Single Player/Multiplayer (Xbox Live), and price.
