I'm pretty sure to remember some Haswell es that run at 2.6GHz or so and had too a high TDP, was it an i5 at 84w?, probably just as placeholder in any case.
Real product will have much higher frequencies or else this is a serious architecture upgrade as Core was to Pentium. If that's true then I expect leaks and early benchmarks to rapidly emerge and test at the same clocks to current chips...

Interesting. Sometimes the capacitor layout on the backside can give clues about the die layout.

I've got a few hunches, but I'd like to see the actual die before I take a stab at its layout.

BTW, couldn't it be possible that those are laptop chips? Intel said at IDF that the developer laptops would be shipping in Q1, IIRC.

Intel shipping at low clock speeds is not unusual for an early ES but you would think the TDP would reflect that. It would not surprise me if they are dealing with heat density problems, but not that bad.

I would say it's typical. I remember that early Ivy Bridge ES models clocked at 1.8-2.0 Ghz. ES1 are low clocked usually and TDP is meaningless.

What a downright greedy company. Sheesh. So they are seriously going to be selling 2 cores with 3M cache for $120-$150? For a desktop cpu? For what is surely a very extremely tiny die? This is what, 1/4 the size of a i3-2100? For the same money? If that is their plan then they may as well forget about having a stock price above $25. Aint nobody gonna buy that. They'll just keep using what they got and buy things like chromebooks.

i3 2100 die size was what? 149mm2. So 1/4 of that would be a little less than 38mm. Problem is you can't reduce the die to that small without screwing the input and output. Furthermore intel is giving you faster graphics and higher clock speeds.

A $50 haswell celeron now has similar single thread performance as your i3 2100 which retailed for $120. A $75 dollar unlocked pentium has faster single threaded performance and trades blows with multithread depending on the benchmark used.

Even that $50 intel haswell celeron has similar hd graphics (10 EU) vs hd 3000 (12 EU).

And Intel's desktop and notebook division is bringing in record profits.

So stop being dramatic and start dealing with facts. People will gladly buy said cpus.
