I've really been out of technology for 8-10 years so I have not follow the tech changes in detail. I'm upgrading my entire system and looking had at a new ssd in combination with some of my older raptor hd's.
My understanding is that currently ssds rely on parallelism for speed. I've been looking and it seems that mediocre 250gb class drives are as fast or faster than 120gb class premium drives. Am I seeing this correctly, in general, or am I missing something.
Currently looking at the Samsumg EVO or sandisk extreme II 120gb for under $100, but it seems like Tiger Direct has been offering some tempting sales on 250gb class drives. Currently they are offering PNY Optima Series 240GB Solid State Drive - 2.5" Form Factor SSD, SATA III, 60,000 iOPS Read - SSD7SC240GOPT-RB for $85 or so. Would you choose this 250gb class drive over one of the premium 120gb drives?
In real terms I know it'll seem like night and day regardless of the drive I pick, but I'm also interested in a firm understanding in what I'm buying. TIA.
