she's a fanatic. want to stay away from the bigger mass-produced brands like godiva.

a user here recommended mariebelle and she absolutely loved it. do you guys know of any other prestigious, great chocolate brands?

thanks in advance!

Do you know if you want to get her solid chocolate bars, truffles, etc...?

I personally like Ghiradelli 70% cacao. I also recommend Niederigger if you're into marzipan.

this is going to sound like the dumbest reply, but if its exclusive, expensive, and highly rated, any of those would be fine. (as in bars, truffles, anything) I don't need like 100 pieces or 5lb of chocolate.

The only advice I can give you is that bulk chocolate > expensive chocolate

I beg to differ but to each his own.

I think cadbury is good as well as lindt. The other high end "exclusive" chocolates i've tried were mediocre.

There's this guy I know named Art Vandalay - he's an importer/exporter. Basically, his whole schtick is that he brings things from other countries to this one. I bet he, or someone in the same line of work, could bring chocolate from Belgium to America, and then you and your girlfriend, and OP and his girlfriend, could have some.

Are you looking for good chocolate, or are you looking for pretty packages? Mariebelle is, from what I can tell, a chocolatier. The chocolate she uses is likely available in its more basic form.

My favorite chocolates in no particular order:

Valrhona
Dagoba
Scharffen Berger
El Rey (I use this mainly for cooking)

You can get these at most any specialty store, and sometimes in places like Whole Foods. There are other offerings like Vosges that create interesting bars with spices.

Joseph Schmidt is probably my favorite chocolatier if I were to pick one, but I'm mainly into just basic stamped dark chocolate.

Lots of good suggestions already... If she liked Mariebelle, buy her some Neuhaus, very good high-end stuff.

google "artisan chocolates" for some really fancy stuff. It will impress her.

my favorite is Bonnat Chocolate, which a friend brings me from France. I have no idea if it's available here in the US. My idea of chocolate heaven.

this is from a fanatical(in a good way) guy in italy and is very expensive, but its some of the best in the world: http://www.amedei-us.com/

the dude actually goes and gets the cacao himself, then ferments, dries, roasts and makes his own chocolate purely from scratch.

btw, godiva is COMPLETE garbage...just look at the ingredients list for that shit.

In my researches the best recommendation I've found is for Amedei Chuao. It's pretty expensive and I haven't bought any yet (or tasted it!). Myself, I have best bang for the buck chocolate, being Guittard Gourmet Bittersweet and Callebaut semi and bittersweet block chocolate. They are inexpensive but quality chocolates. Not suitable for a gift unless your GF doesn't mind chopping the ~10 lb blocks.
