I take it this is whey protein concentrate based on the very vague description on their site " A 5 Pound Bag of Micro Ultra Filtered WPC"?
That's actually highly specific: it means whey protein concentrate (aka "WPC") that has been filtered by being forced through microscopic-scale meshes.
This is an excellent buy.
These protein threads usually end in pi$$ing matches about creatine or protein being dangerous for one's health, and I've debated the frankly ignorant people who rant about that enough times on Anandtech. But here's some quick tips:
1. If you want really great tasting whey, try Optimum Nutrition (by far the market leader in sales volume) for $44.95/10lbs., free delivery, from
vitaglo.com I like the taste and mixing properties better than Protein Factory, but I could live with the latter if necessary.
2. Try mixing shakes with ice, sugar-free instant pudding, and sweetener to taste. I personally like about 2 heaping tsp. of pudding per scoop (~ 22 g of Pro) of protein. Fruit is also good, and a bit of Crystal Light powder is also OK. Not all of these at once, however!
Orange Julius
60g Pro, vanilla
8 oz. orange juice
ice
6 heaping tsp. of SF pudding
1 pack of sweetener
water to desired consistency -- probably 16 oz.
Chocolate mint
60g Pro, chocolate
ice
approx. 24 oz. water
6 heaping tsp. SF choc. pudding
scant 1/4 tsp. of mint extract (not too much!)
2 heaping tsp. sugar-free Quik
2 packs sweetener
Vanilla milkshake
60g Pro, vanilla
ice, 24 oz. water
5 heaping tsp. SF vanilla pudding
5 heaping tsp. cheesecake (not SF) instant pudding
2 packs sweetener
(frozen strawberries/other fruit also good in this)
Berry blast
handful ea. of frozen blueberries, strawberries, blackberries (total maybe 3/4 cup)
60g Pro, vanilla
6 heaping tsp. SF vanilla pudding
24 oz. ice & water
2-3 packs of sweetener
Chocolate butterscotch
24 oz. ice & water
60g Pro, chocolate
7 heaping tsp. SF butterscoth pudding
2 heaping tsp. SF Quick
2 packs sweetener
Those are my most "gourmet" recipes. Pistachio SF pudding is also good, as is Lemon SF pudding -- but I've only seen the latter for sale at Kroger foodstores.
Other good combinations:
van. pro, vanilla pudding, apple juice, cinnamon
van. pro., vanilla pudding, pumpkin pie spice
choc. pro, chocolate pudding, instant coffee (esp. Hazelnut)
choc. pro, chocolate pudding, cinnamon
strawberry pro, vanilla & cheesecake pudding
I add in 1-2 tsp. of psyllium powder to each shake for dietary fiber. The "Equate" brand laxative powder, unflavored, is a good buy at WalMart. Milk will make the shakes more thick, which can be good or bad -- I like pretty thin shakes. The Hood low-carb skim milk is mostly protein (about 2/3 by calories), and tastes just like the real thing -- maybe better than regular skim.
For convenience, I have small plastic tubs (Hefty brand I think -- but I mean tupperware style) of 6 different puddings, and 3 large tubs (maybe qt. size) for choc./vanilla/strawberry whey protein.
P.S. -- anybody remember a "Bodybuilding Chow" whey protein thread, going way back? That was my first post on Anandtech.
