prescott or northwood

Which is better to get for my socket 478... Prescott 3.0Ghz or Northwood 3.0Ghz? The prescott has a 1mb L2 cache... but the northwood still seems to be popular for some reason?

The Northwood runs cooler and is faster at equal clock speeds. If they're about the same price go for the Northwood.

Don't be fooled by the extra cache. Thats there to keep it competitive with the Northwood.

On 478, I'd definately go with Northwood.

Prescott should die the horrible death it deserves.

Yep, get the northwood. It definatly runs cooler, and in a lot of things is faster clock for clock than the prescott.

why does that only run @ 533FSB? compared to the 2.8 and 3.2 which runs at 800?

Because Intel didn't have official 800FSB support out when they launched that CPU.

Get the P4 with Hyper Threading.


I believe thats the C.

I think the B and A where on a 533 bus without HT.
