I am quite serious. Politicians aren’t like religious leaders, who DO set an example.

We vote to get what we want. We don’t vote to “follow their example”
Have you seen the Trump cult in action? It goes way beyond electing a local councilperson because they are going to build that park in your neighborhood. We are talking they think of him in terms that are borderline worshipful, aka sent by God, to a total sense of awe and admiration so that he does lead by example.

You haven't been paying attention

Will this legitimately block the Supreme Court nomination? Because all the senators are in quarantine?

According to Worldometers, the US is 12th in cases per million and 10th in deaths per million. We are the 3rd largest country.

How is that "terrible"?
You'll find slightly different numbers with different sources, but let's go with yours. That is, to be clear, the 12th and 10th *worst*. Out of 216. Call me Mr. American Exceptionalism, but I feel like we should be able to do a bit better than that.

To add to this, You literally have millions just in the QAnon camp. They literally think Trump is the only thing standing between a massive all encompassing all the way to the top left wing (basically anybody who disagrees with them) child trafficking conspiracy that is also satanic and cannibalistic, drinking kids blood stuff.

lol we have 328 million people. Being 12th and 10th respectively is ok.

.. and what “sources” show different numbers?

Of course you have and of course you didn’t vote bunker boy in 2016.

My guess would be voted libertarian. The choice for those who find the Republicans insufficiently sociopathic.

Have you? The per capita numbers for the US are terrible.

To be fair, so are those for a large group of countries. Generally there seems to be a correlation between how badly a country is doing on that score and how macho and manly-wannabe the leadership is. I mean, it gives me no pleasure to say it (because I don't really like the 'women are better leaders' type of feminism, women can be awful people too) but the countries that have done well would be Germany and New Zealand, both run by women. While the worst would include the US, UK, India and Brazil, all run by wanna-be 'manly men'.

Also you have to exclude the microstates like San Marino and Andorra as countries with such small populations are going to be overly affected by specific random variations.

New Zealand is an fairly isolated island of 5 million people.

Can’t compare that to the US which has hundreds of millions of people and international airports all over the country which makes spreading it very easy.

Exclude San Marino and Andorra (as almost nobody lives in those countries) and the US is 8th. Most of the countries ahead of it are in South America and have a fraction of the US's GDP and living standards.

Why not answer the question. Who did not get what they needed? Cuomo was praising the federal government for giving him what he needed.

Really. Pay your mortgage like that. Pay them less than the payment. Make it at some point later. Then tell them, “You got your money. What did I do wrong?”

I answered your question, just not the answer you expected.

Prove it.

Do you understand how per capita numbers work? The whole point is that it normalizes the statistics by total population. You can't say that we have a big population, so having some of the worst per capita numbers in the world is ok.

And again, that's 12th and 10th *worst*. The list of countries who are doing worse than us in per capita cases:

Qatar, Bahrain, Aruba, French Guiana, Israel, Andorra, Panama, Kuwait, Peru, Chile, Brazil.

Countries that are doing better than us:

Literally everybody else on the entire planet.

And don't worry too much about the other sources with slightly different numbers (e.g. statista) The differences aren't particularly significant and likely are just a matter of the chalk line being snapped at different times. I'm perfectly happy sticking with your chosen source.

I do grant that New Zealand has some intrinsic advantages. They made the most of them and played their cards well, however. The US has not done well, partly because of the Trump administration and partly because of the wider culture that produced him.

This is a funny conversation. I guess success is finishing in 200th to 202nd place is fantastic. Now that’s winning.

Each state Governs itself and each state is different. He couldn’t call for a national lockdown no more than he could a National mask mandate.

Besides, why treat Casper Wyoming the same as Manhattan? Makes no sense.

Have you looked at per capita numbers?

That tells the true story.

Stay on topic. The Pressident is the top of the Federal Food Chain. It is his job to organize national responses to threats.
He could have done so many things from defense production act which I am surprised he didn’t want the “War Time” Presidency badge in this regard to order Masks, gowns and whatnot to be produced. He could have ordered patten/copyright material shared, he could have ordered closed factories open. Plus all the jobs that would have come with that with an added bonus of being self dependent as a country.
He chose not to do that.
Instead he chose to not follow his own fucking CDC guidelines and drop out of the world health organization. Which any other time I wouldn’t say was a bad idea, I will say dropping out of the world health organization during a fucking global pandemic because someone hurt the Presidents feelz is incompetent.
Bottom line it is the Presidents job to ensure our safety, it is the Presidents choice to delegate that authority, it is the President who is responsible when shit goes wrong.

Look, people will die from it.

Im a realist.

You revere the man who claimed the virus would disappear "like a miracle," and not only refused to wear masks or socially distance (defying all health experts' advice), but until days ago was holding rallies where he had no expectations of safety for the crowd. The Barrett nomination is now being characterized as a superspreader event.

True realists know people will die, but you know what they also do? They take threats seriously and know that it's possible to minimize casualties with early, coordinated action. You, sir, are not even close to being a realist.

With three senators on the judiciary committee testing positive, looks like there won't be a Supreme Court justice until after the election.

RBG got her wish.

View attachment 30873
Well, the skinny shortly after RBG's death was 3 possibilities:

1. Shove a nominee down our throat before the election.
2. Do that after the election in the "lame duck" session
3. The winner of the November election gets to submit his nominee in 2021

So, I'm still concerned that 2. will happen if 1. doesn't.
