Republicans or those who oppose this speech: Lest you forget
the left screamed bloody murder when Bush gave a speech to students. Its a fucking "dont do drugs stay in school" speech that AFAIK every president gives. This speech is not trend setting, historic, or evil. Its a non-issue.
Fail. Kindly show us some evidence the left "screamed bloody murder" about this. All I see is one Congressman (though there were presumably some others) challenging the use of tax dollars for the speech. Not a word about pulling kids out of school, people blasting a speech they haven't heard because it's an evil plot to indoctrinate our children just like the Nazis, or any of the other mind-boggling lunacy we're seeing. Just a challenge on the use of tax dollars (and unless there was much more to it than a speech, I'd say even that complaint was misguided.)
This thread is truly amazing. I can't remember ever seeing such an asinine level of paranoia and deluded hysteria. It's not just the usual wing-nut media blowhards spreading their formulaic hate-mongering. It's the sheer number of ignorant fools who are lapping it up, chanting this absurd mantra in cult-like unison. As once panelist put it on
Meet the Press this morning, "It's flat-out stupid." Indeed. Stupid and shameful.
I think I know what the real problem is, at least for many of these Chicken Littles. They're afraid the kids will listen to the speech without Dad standing by to scream at the TV, and they will see an intelligent, articulate man making perfectly rational and reasonable statements. They will see Obama isn't the maniacal fiend Dad constantly rants about, and they will maybe begin to realize Dad is crazed with partisan hatred. In short, the Chicken Littles are afraid their kids are going to realize Dad is a dipshit, and they may even begin to think for themselves. That's the kiss of death for any religious cult ... especially one based on irrational hatred and fear.
