Pathetic.

Because if that message comes from Obama it is EVIL SOCIALISM designed to INDOCTRINATE OUR CHILDREN who aren't old enough to vote anyway. Meanwhile, if Ronald Reagan were still with us and did the exact same thing, all the people complaining about this would praise this as "someone with life experience the children can really learn from." It's all a matter of perspective. Or, more appropriately, the utter retardation of extreme partisan viewpoints.

Sorry, righties, there are areas where you deserve a voice, but you are not the President of the United States, and you don't get equal political visibility.

Things like the Republicans getting a say on the radio address, following the State of the Union, fine, but you don't get to stand next to him at press conferences with your views.

You don't get to sit next to him on all foreign visits to heads of state ensuring your opinions are equally voiced. And he can give a speech to schoolchildren as the President.

WTF are you blabbering about? are you meds wearing off? time for another dose?

I stand corrected about Milk, I forgot that while he wasn't killed for being gay, his murderer was released early because he a killed a gay man. Thankfully in the riots over 60 police were hospitalized however, so some good came from it.
:Q

wow.

"Later that evening, May 21, 1979, several police cruisers filled with officers wearing riot gear arrived at the Elephant Walk Bar on Castro Street. Harvey Milk's protégé Cleve Jones and a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, Warren Hinckle, watched as officers stormed into the bar and began to beat patrons at random. After a 15-minute melee, they left the bar and struck out at people walking along the street.[18][140] The chief of police finally ordered the officers out of the neighborhood."

Yes, those poor police.

Oh, it's in two books. That version of events must be true.

My bad.

Please go on hating those who protect and serve you.

I'm sure those people were glad the police where there to serve and protect them when their skulls being caved in by nightsticks. I bet you believe everything cops say, what a good little follower you are.

I don't believe everything anyone says, but I do believe that the vast majority of police officers are decent men and women who do their job just fine. Every position of authority comes with its own set of bad apples; but, unlike you, I do not stereotype all of them or take any pleasure in them getting hurt.

Final question: If someone stabs, rapes, shoots, or kidnaps any of your loved ones, who are you going to call?

I'm withholding my final opinion of Obama until later. I don't understand what this uproar is all about.

The media and parents I think goofed. They made such a uproar over the upcoming speech that we will never know what the original message would have been . Anything we hear now will be so thoroughly re-written and edited that it will be just another speech, no issues will be brought up and no agenda discussed. I expect it to be a "stay in school, don't do drugs, and you too can some day be president" type speech.

lol "historic moment." what a megalomaniac.

Blah, blah, blah. What a fscking bunch of whiniacs!

Or is your memory so short that you don't remember that other Presidents addressed school children during their terms of office, including George Bush and Ronald Reagan:

Both Presidents George Bush and Ronald Reagan both gave speeches aimed specifically at students that were nationally televised. In 1989, Bush delivered a televised anti-drug speech, and Reagan's 1986 commencement speech and Q&A session was "beamed over public television into 171 school districts," according to the L.A. Times.

It's worth noting that schools are, encouraged, not required, to air the speech. The Houston Chronicle reports that one Dallas school district is leaving the decision to individual teachers. Susan Dacus, spokeswoman for the Wylie school district, says parents who don't want their children to see it can opt out.

Maybe if children focused on the core educational subjects such as English, social studies, math, and science, instead of wasting hours upon hours of school time on gimmicks, the public education system in America would be improving instead of crumbling.

But then what would children in California do without "Harvey Milk Day"?

All this does is reinforce the fact that the liberals who control the schools have their priorities screwed up.

What exactly is wrong with Harvey Milk Day? I mean, if you like seeing gay people killed for being gay, I guess you'd be against it. I guess that explains a lot about you.

Maybe if the Republicans didn't spend years trying their best to defund schools, creating programs like NCLB and pushing creationism we'd be better off.
Harvey Milk was not killed because he was gay. This fact seems to allude you. I guess that explains a lot about you.

I have to allude to the fact that elude eluded you, but you are right on the main issue - and Patranus is rightfully criticized for his tolerance of intolerance, i.e., his disdain for the promotion of the end to bigotry that is advancd by celebrating the grondbreaking gay politician Harvey Milk. He's contemptuous of the holiday, because he's contemptuous of the effort to end bigotry, because he's pretty comfortable with the bigotry. He's one of those people who battles improving society. And none of this says much about you.

If kids are forced to listen to the speech, most of them will not give a damn and will just be happy to get out of regular learning for a few moments. The very small percentage that actually pay attention and care will be smart enough to evaluate what he is saying and make their own decisions.

As long as it is a speech about education and related issues then there is nothing wrong here. Now if it would be about his whole political agenda then I can see why people would be upset. Anyway if schools do show this during the day (which I doubt many will) I'm sure anyone with Obama-phobia will be allowed to step out of the room.

I would probably watch it, could be interesting if there is a Q&A segment, never know what a kid might ask.
You can prep for what adults are likely to ask, not the same for kids.

As a news caster said ," I really want to see those kindergarten and 1st graders pay attention to him for the whole hour. If he has that kind of tele-presence, he has missed his calling, he needs to seek out Hollywood. "

At 12:00 p.m., Eastern Time (ET), President Barack Obama will deliver a national address to the students of America. (Please note that this is a change from the originally scheduled time.) During this special address, the president will speak directly to the nation?s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.

The U.S. Department of Education encourages students of all ages, teachers, and administrators to participate in this historic moment by watching the president deliver the address, which will be broadcast live on the White House Web site (http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/) and on C-SPAN at 12:00 p.m., ET. We also encourage educators to use this moment to help students get focused and inspired to begin the new academic year.

LOL. What is wrong with the President talking to students? What damn agenda do you think the conspiracy is? What having the President tell them to do their homework and set goals is a bad thing? I am proud that we have a President that is as accessible now as he was during the campaign.

In an acknowledgment that the Department of Education provided lesson plans written somewhat inartfully, surrounding the President Obama?s speech to students next Tuesday, the White House today announced that it had rewritten one of the sections in question.

President Obama will talk to students from Pre K thru 12th grade about personal responsibility and the importance of staying in school, White House aides said.

As one of the preparatory materials for teachers provided by the Department of Education, students had been asked to, "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. ?

Today, after Republicans accused the White House of trying to indoctrinate school children with liberal propaganda the White House and the Department of Education changed the section to now read, "Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals.?

?We changed it to clarify the language so the intent is clear,? said White House Spokesman Tommy Vietor. "

You wasn't kidding about the creepy ending. Of course, Oprah's fatass had to produce that garbage. "I pledge to serve Barack Obama" WTF???

Of course what our good friend Barry leaves out is that the very same blog post he linked says there is no evidence to support any of these accusations. He's either attempting yet another incredibly dishonest post by banking on you not reading it, or he was too dumb to read it himself before he linked it. Not surprising when you consider what pieces of shit the rest of his posts are.

And just to clarify, while apparently some kids did see that Demi Moore video in school, it was not part of any request/anything else from any federal official. So... I don't see how it applies here.

Also, Politifact.com gives the people raising the specter of Obama 'indoctrinating' their kids it's coveted 'Pants on Fire' rating, which is reserved for only the most egregious, shameless, and/or completely insane lies.

Naturally we can look back on this thread and see who bought into them hook, line, and sinker. The results are not surprising.

With obama's history of speeches and his motives, given the lesson plans, given everything else. I am now more convinced than ever that his pushing is radical agenda.

The fact that the WH had to change their position and "directives" given public outcry is yet more proof of the people waking up to what he truly is. And that in itself, is a very good thing.

As a true patriot, Hendrick said in a recent town hall.

Of course you are Spidey, that is because you are delusional.

You take the determination of a nonpartisan fact checking site that thinks the claims of Obama 'pushing a radical agenda' are so ridiculously, hilariously false as they give them their absolute highest rating for lies possible, and your response is "I'm more convinced than ever".

The worst part is when the speech comes and goes without anything like what you are claiming now, you will come to the conclusion that he changed it from his Marxist speech he was going to give. Since you've based your current opinion on zero evidence (and a lot of paranoid delusions), it can never be disproved.

Only you Spidey, only you can look at objective sources telling you that you're crazy and come away even more convinced that you're right. This explains a lot of what you post... it's completely detatched from reality.

It's being a 'true patriot' to love party more than country? I think not, guy.

Once upon a time, the President would schedule an address to the nation's schoolchildren and parents across the country would make sure their children attended, telling them it was a 'special day.' Today, partisan assholes keep their kids home for fear of them discovering that the President is a Democrat.
