"We're the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits," Trump said in an interview for "Axios on HBO."
Several other countries, including Canada, have a policy of birthright citizenship, according to an analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates for reducing immigration.
"It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And it has to end," he continued.
"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don't," he said, adding that he has run it by his counsel. "You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they're saying I can do it just with an executive order," Trump said.
The President didn't provide any details of his plan, but said that "it's in the process. It'll happen."

It would be interesting to see the actual legal argument that it only takes an executive order besides "they're saying". Which right wing tweet did he read this time?

The constitution is (for once) absolutely clear on this issue and there is no ambiguity. All persons born in the United States are citizens, period.

Trump is lying about this in order to stir up his base before the election. It’s the same as he was lying about his pretend middle class tax cut, how he was lying about pre-existing conditions, etc. He is in panic mode because he’s afraid of losing the midterms so he’s just saying anything and everything in the hopes that something will stick.

Everyone within the boundaries of the United States is subject to the jurisdiction of its laws. The only exception to this is the children of diplomats as they are expressly places outside of the jurisdiction of the US.
