The current right wing majority on the Court could do double back flips into their own rectums & the Trumpsters would cheer the performance.

It is true. If I saw someone do a double backflip into their own rectum I would be wowed and cheer. But, they're just interpreting the constitution. And as I said, if there is anything the left has shown us, it is that an amendment can mean something without question for centuries and then mean something else.

Since this is about immigration and citizenship and ultimately law, I'll ask again. What can those thousands of soldiers do? What's the ROE?

At least the GOP have had time to stack the courts. That should take care of all the Constitutional issues that arise from his efforts.

Vote D, you motherfuckers.

Bravo on your false equivalency.

Theres is nothing vague about the 14th amendment unless you are stupid, racist, or both.

Take it away Atlantic...

"But over and over in the Fourteenth Amendment debates, the framers of the amendment made clear that there would be no other exclusions from the clause. Children of immigrants? They were citizens. Even children of Chinese immigrants, who themselves weren’t eligible to naturalize? Yes, them too. Mysterious foreign “Gypsies,” who supposedly spoke an unknown language and worshiped strange gods and observed no American laws? Yes, the sponsors explained, it covered them too."

"The assault on birthright citizenship is an onslaught on civic equality for all of us. Nativists have grown more strident over the past decade or so. First, they advocated for a constitutional amendment to strip citizenship from the children of aliens; then they argued that citizenship could be stripped by statute; now, in the Trump era, they claim that it can be done with the stroke of a pen. It is an idea that has crawled slowly from the fever swamps of the far right into the center of our discourse, growing more outlandish with each step."

Just identify the retard gene that we all know Trump must be carrying and take away citizenship from all carriers... Dems should do this next time they are in power.

From what we know these days, it is unlikely that "retard" is a single gene, but likely the result of a constellation of genes and non-coding transcription factors, even epigenetic in-utero influences that, if it could ever possibly be determined, would be extremely difficult to parse out in total.

The language of the 14th amendment is utterly unambiguous & the intent of those who wrote it & passed it equally so.

Your whataboutism & diversion are duly noted, however.

I believe the Trump family should set an example and leave the country since his (Trump's) mother was an illegal immigrant.

They can't do much, due to Posse Comitatus they can't engage in border enforcement.

Hence the question. With "The Legions of Rome" on our doorstep any month now I wanted to know what he thought the military was actually going to do.

If the intention of announcing such a plan is to get liberals to huff and puff, about yet another thing, it's worked. lol

First off, he can't do that. Even if he tried, a judge would immediately block it, citing the 14th amendment, which is very clear about this. I believe, even if it made it to the SCOTUS, the decision to block it would be affirmed.

Now, about the issue. As has been stated repeatedly, if there were no incentive for people to immigrate illegally, they wouldn't do it. Being able to cross the border, have a child, then reap the potential government benefits, is one of those incentives. I don't believe the framers of the constitution meant for the spirit of the amendment to be exploited the way it has. Illegal immigration will never be solved because nobody, right, or left, want to tackle the problem and pass legislation that works. So Trump is once again being a blow hard.

Wait, so now conservatives want us to go by the intent of ammendments rather than the text? Surprised they want to open that can of worms.

The "we want what we want" can of worms?

This nation, amidst its civil strife, is already there.

The 14th Amendment was drafted and adopted in the 1860s so all the "framers of the constitution" were long dead. "Illegal immigration" did not exist as a concept in this era of America.

Remember how Texas conservatives flipped their shit over Jade Helm?

Trump changes everything, I suppose.

Now, about the issue. As has been stated repeatedly, if there were no incentive for people to immigrate illegally, they wouldn't do it

Being targeted for murder or other brutality and other heinous acts does tend to drive people to seek political asylum.

So Trump is once again being a blow hard

What he is an individual who thinks that he is the law, and that if he doesn't like the Constitution, then he can overrule it as President. That is fundamentally unconstitutional and against the rule of law. Any other President would be impeached for such an attempt then removed. He willfully would be violating his oath of office as well.

Will you support that action if he attempts to clearly violate the Constitution in no unambiguous terms. Were you in the service? If you were you would have had to take an oath. As a civilian it no longer lawfully binds you, but was it all about show or did it mean something?

Will Trump do this? I'm thinking probably not. He likes to threaten the unconstitutional and illegal at times, but I wouldn't put it past him.

That would take away a lot of future useful idiots for the Dems.

At Trump rallies? O_0

The useful idiots there are Russia's

Deport them and let them petition Putin for citizenship.

List your useful skills like: mail bombings, mass shootings, internet memes, coal mining....

See how that works?

They ruled that a child born in the US to non-citizen parents who were legal residents of the US was a US citizen.
He won because, according to the court: "That said Wong Kim Ark has not, either by himself or his parents acting for him, ever renounced his allegiance to the United States, and that he has never done or committed any act or thing to exclude him therefrom."

The framers of the 14th amendment in 1869 meant for it be used exactly as it has been used in the 149 years since. They, along with all of the original Founders, were VERY pro-immigration. And by VERY, I mean **VERY** pro-immigration. You should look it up sometime.

Since Donald's claim to US citizenship is that he was born here, the second after he signs such an order he should be removed from office. He will no longer be a US citizen (his only basis for that status is his birth here-just like you and me). At last a silver lining to another stupid thing Trump does.
