Obama doesn't get it. In order for there to be jobs, the cost of doing business needs to go down. Obama does not address this at all. Where are all his advisors? Are any of them buisiness people? Why can't anyone just yell it in his face? Costs like taxes, health care(and taxes associated with health care), regulation is what's hurting us.
and the regulations that bush left(and nuked us into a recession) go around for free though, right?

Ya'll are fucking hilarious. He could not say or do anything you idiots wouldn't criticize... unless he had a (R) after his name, that is.

It seems to me that America is a Melting Pot, and will benefit from the energy of new people. Always.

Your problem, is with our state giving out welfare, which I am against.

-John

There are a lot of problems, not just giving out welfare.

Your premise is ridiculous. America will benefit from new people, but not to the same extent as any other point in history as chosen. If that were the case, you would have no problem saying that every poor person in the world could immigrate to the US and our country would improve. There must be limits and standards. Every nation in the world recognizes this and implements controls to ensure that it is enforced. The US is among the worst in this regard.

A nation does not have infinite resources to support any number of immigrants while still maintaining the standard of living that its current citizens demand. I'm sure that it could be generally quantified how many immigrants we can support per year based on the economy, whereby significantly more would be detrimental.

The quote you posted is representative of an ideal of the time, when America was the refuge of those seeking escape from the repressive governments of the world, to live a life where they succeeded or failed based on their own merits and efforts. These days, too many take it to mean that America will provide for anyone and everyone who comes here looking for a better life.

America was not designed to provide for you, it was designed to allow you to provide for yourself without getting in the way.

I gave him credit for what I agree with, but the majority of his speech has been empty rhetoric and regurgitation of his previously failed promises.

America is a melting pot..or was. Now we have classrooms that are Spanish speaking only. Instead of teaching the future generation to learn English, we will just keep them from it. There are probably many more examples of how we aren't melting together any more but keeping each one's own culture and not trying to integrate.

Also, as for the speech, I can't disagree with anything he said so far. Pretty good speech..but they are only words. I hope he follows through with everything he says.

I think that by 'integrate' you mean 'being just like me.'

The sad thing is that people said the same thing about previous generations of immigrants. Anyways, now the country has become so diverse that I'm afraid that it's the generations that have ancestors who have been here for some time that are not integrating with American society as it is now.

No. You don't understand. That quote (shall I post it again?) is the American Dream. It IS what America is. Government is not what America is.. it's people.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
