You can be whatever you want to be and not a single person can come up with any valid reason why you can't be, otherwise they are labeled as a bigot.
Aha, so I can acknowledge and release my inner black woman now?

She and Bruce are gonna hook up. Bruce has saved his sperm. Once he's switched, she will be impregnated so they will have a bi racial, bisexual, GLBT trans waffle iron family that they can make millions on a reality show. The kid can sign up for every entitlement program.
Definitely would contend for a Victimhood Olympics Gold Medal .

The discussion of vital issues today has been reduced to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, in which the validity of one’s argument is determined not by the strength of your reasoning but by the relative worth of the immutable qualities you bring to the table, be it skin color, sexual orientation, or genitalia (or, in the case of pre-operative transsexuals, wished-for genitalia). In the game of Race, Gender, Sexuality, black beats white, woman beats man, trans beats cisgender, and gay (or, preferably, “queer&#8221 beats straight.

This whole thing is funny, but do not really understand why it's such a big deal.

It's kind of a big deal actually, sweep aside the fraud stuff for a minute and answer these questions:

Can someone self-identify as another gender? Transgender movement seems to have some support. The whole Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner thing.

Can someone self-identify as another race?

Legal implications could impact society quite a bit.

I don't know, I would guess you could self-identify as whatever. I have no idea what is going on in your brain or your genetic make-up for me to argue against you making that claim.

Like what other that confusion on which bathroom to use?

I'm with KT. If she wants to be black, male, martian it doesn't affect me or I'm missing something obvious.

For federal programs, it looks like self identity of race is the preferred method under federal guidance with observer identification of race as a backup only if a student/employee refuses to provide a racial identity. As to how a school or employer is supposed to guess at the race of a student or employee who doesn't self-identify, the feds punted.

fwiw, "transracial" is a thing, but is used to refer to someone of one race who was adopted by/raised by parents of another and thus may not identify with their birth ethnicity at all.

it generally doesn't apply to an adult adopting blackface and fabricating an elaborate life story, including a fake dad and a fake son, to further their career.

why not? biologically, race doesn't exist. It's a human construct. Sex is biologically defined, gender maybe less so.

Race is primarily a circumstance of birth. you can't choose which society you are born into, but I suppose you can adapt or not adapt to whatever culture you grow into.

That post just about sums it up.

If she had said she identifies with black culture, and wants to work for the NAACP, nobody would bat an eye. However, she made up bizarre stories to claim she was of black heritage, and even made up a black father and a black son. Like WTF?

BTW, regarding the previous use of "transracial", what's with the frequent Caucasian parent + adopted Asian kid commercials these days? It seems it's a thing now, popular with ad agencies for whatever reason. I want to see an Asian parent + adopted white kid commercial on TV, just to see the reaction. Or better yet, black parent with adopted white kid, or Asian parent with adopted black kid. (The Cheerios commercial with the black dad and white mom doesn't quite count, since the kid was mixed.)

Agreed. If she wants to be considered an AA then so be it but what I'm getting from this (and I could be wrong) is the apparent lack of integrity on the part of this women. She has deceived many and continues try to justify her means to an end. She wears blackface and just resigned from an organization that represents African Americans ... of which she is not one. She is currently under fire (and has been asked to resign) for abuses related to her volunteer work as a police oversight commissioner amid allegations of improper conduct.

Her own parents question her honesty and motives underlying her deceptions.

Race is a hot topic now and the press is eating it up and spewing it out ...

Seems pretty obvious to me.

In a vacuum I'd agree, but it doesn't end at a classification humans made up. There's TONS of laws surrounding race.

If a white person assaults her, can they be charged with racial hate crimes if all the other qualifications are met?

I guess it puts all these laws into question more than it does self-identification.

I thought American Indian heritage had to be proven. I'm sure it varies by program.

I don't disagree with that...but I think "hate" crimes and race-based laws and policies are more or less stupid, yet somewhat necessary, unfortunately.

They exist only because people are fucking terrible.

That was my point. If we didn't have all these laws and policies (totally forgot policies) surrounding race no one would really give a shit if she self-identified as black.

We make race "important" and it's not. Culture is important. You can have regional culture that applies to one race (frequent), or several.
