I turn 39 in November and I have never voted in my entire life. I have absolutely zero political affiliation as far as democrats and republicans go and I don’t even give a shit about the ideology of either party.

I registered to vote this year and pretty sure I registered an independent since I couldn’t give two shits about what a democrat or republican is.

I cannot FATHOM how anyone, republican or democrat, could have watched that debate last night and saw how the sitting President of the United States acted and answered those questions, and been like “yep, that is my president and I want 4 more years of that guy.” He is just a complete man child clown, racist piece of shit bully.

Seriously, anyone I know personally who supports that clown is just going to be looked at completely different from here on out if I know they vote for him this year.

I’ll break this down for you since you haven’t followed what has been going on for 25 years give or take.
Sometime in the mid 90s Republicans shifted focus to small Government and Federal Debt. That gave way to the “Drown it in a bathtub” and “Burn Everything down” voters, which has only accelerated because Politicians with those opinions tend to be tough guys.
No matter what is said on these forums voters prefer tough guys.
We have evolved to a point where one party wants to Destroy Government and a large portion of their voters agree. There will be some who say this was an epic debate performance simply because it was so bad and had zero substance, because that is what they want, a non functioning Government.

Ignore button exists. It's like giving a moderator a mic cut.

I'm pushing it. Zero substantive posts.

All childish insults. No facts, logic or coherent arguments.
Pretty much like Trump's debate "style."

One day we may get a rw poster who can actually make a logical, well articulated positions, but that's been an extreme rarity in all my years here.

Trump won the presidency by acting like a total jerk. And, that did produce the tv ratings. Donald knows how it works quite well indeed. Come-on.... you know you will tune in for future debates if only to watch Donald Trump go crazy. People like watching car wrecks and they like watching Donald Trump act like a child. For the base, this is the non-establishment candidate that they so desperately hoped for. The guy to thumb his nose at the establishment. However, the last laugh is on them because just wait until those high court decisions decided by Amy Coney Barrett start hitting their kitchen tables. THEN they will think twice.

Neither candidate had a good debate.

Trump bullied his way through the entire evening, which probably delighted his supporters but will not earn gains in the demographics he needs to win. He didn’t convincingly answer one question.

Biden did not make any fatal errors, but he didn’t bury Trump either.

- Given the apocalyptic scenario Democrats are trying to frame around the SCOTUS appointment, he didn’t give a compelling answer on a topic he knew would come up

- He lost his cool in a few instances and used Trumpian language, which I am sure drew a cheer from some, but was not Presidential

- Distancing himself from being labeled liberal, and not decisively deflecting the few punches Trump did manage to land

So, after watching THIS, will anyone even bother tuning in to the VP debate? Pence will not tell Harris to shut-up. And Harris will not call Pence an idiot. So, where's the fun? Why tune in to watch sap running down a tree?

PS. I swear at one point during the Trump/Biden debate, I actually thought Biden was going to go over and say to Trump, "lets take this outside". I thought Chris Wallace had boxing gloves ready to go.

If we look at it this way, though, Biden won simply by preventing Trump from gaining any points. It's Biden's election to lose, and he didn't screw things up.

Or maybe to accomplish more of what he did? Far, far more than Obama ever accomplished, even with the left constantly wasting his time, and America's time, with Mah Russia, impeachment because Tump wanted to show obvious corruption, etc.? Nice!
You are too stupid to even know how much of a joke you are. Let just compare the economies of Obama vs Trump. Let's look at Obama's last 3 vs Trump's first 3. Real numbers just expose your ignorance.

My guess would be the Biden name calling was intentional. All this crap has calculus behind it. Anyone sane, regardless of political slant, would have wanted Trump to shut the fuck up anyways. Complete juvenile just incessantly interrupting and being a total asshole.

Disney announced today they're laying off 20,000+ employees because the theme parks are a no-go now. CA restrictions, they said on the news.
A ton of those people were at Disney World, which is open an operating with only Disney applied restrictions. Even without state level restrictions they can't fill up even their massively reduced capacity.

I dreaded the wait just before the debate worried Biden would seriously stumble and ruin his chances. But not the case, he did ok in performance overall. I'm somewhat concerned about finding-the-right-numbers small gaffes like "9 or 90, it's 9.." That's not the exact quote, I paraphrased it.

But it's not serious enough to do much damage. Fox News played up those numbers moments. Since I'm for Biden I'm not inclined to think it's that big of a deal so far.

And remember Trump said Biden couldn't put two sentences together a few weeks ago. That's not the situation based on the debate imo. So wonder if any conservatives think it's the case now. They could try to say Trump was just using a figure of speech but to me it implied an overall opinion which is he thinks Biden is a lousy hopeless speaker/debater which does not appear to be the case.
Biden was a paragon of sanity next to the biggest duffus to ever inhabit the White House. I had my eyes on Biden 80% of the time and tried harder to hear his words, make out what he was saying during the 20+% of the time that they talked simultaneously. Joe made a ton of sense, and not only that, while making his case he was also hearing and responding and largely very appropriately to Trump's attempts to slash him. He had some super spot-on retorts. It was a win for Joe and if there really are more debates, he will be quite a lot more confident he will hold his own and do fine. Fact is, this is the one that will get the ratings, further debates are gonna be basically nothing new and the viewership will be much diminished.

It's the heavyweight championship of the American political arena 2020. Round one is over. Trump is in his corner, his handlers are trying to close the big cut over his eye dripping blood down his face. He's sagging on his stool bleary eyed. Will he come out for round 2? I suppose. But the scorers have the first round 9 for Biden, 5 for Trump.

I notice your grading system. You indicated both were equally bad while saying the following about Biden...

Clearly we did not watch the same debate.

It’s the true hallmark of the “bothsider”

It’s like being an NFL ref and taking away a legitimate touchdown from the winning team and adding a score to the losing team while simultaneously claiming to be unbiased because both teams are tied.

Did you actually sit through the entire thing? I managed less than half an hour (and that includes the introduction) before I got annoyed and turned it off. Trump is simply rude, and I can't get past that.

Trump IS the establishment. He can't think for himself, he doesn't have the will or inclination to arm himself with the facts. He's swayed by others. He pretends it's otherwise but it's not. It's the moneyed interests who have his ear. It's they he represents. He IS THE ESTABLISHMENT ON STEROIDS. Money to the military and the 1%ers. That's what he does. Don't be fooled.

Harris will eviscerate Pence. I want to see that, also the mopping up by the custodian of Pence's guts.

You get a little curious about the noise, but then you see the usual thread destroyer players smothering the thread, and you just roll your shoulders and move on.

Unfortunately I missed most of it due to a family issue, but watched some clips. What a complete and utter shitshow Trump turned that into. It was refreshing to finally hear someone call the idiot an idiot to his face. Biden rolled with, blocked and deflected most all overruns and drowning babble attempts. Showed absolutely zero of his cards that he didn’t have to relating to the policy clickbait snips that these debates are actually about, won the battles of posture, intellect and poise and just watched Trump completely unraveled from the start to the end.

Wallace also handled Trump as well as you possibly can. Apparently people don’t understand that you can’t tell an unbridled nutjob egotist high on amphetamines on that type of stage to reel it in. You’d need a bevy of tranquilizer darts to get that jackass to adhere to structure. Wallace was admonishing him like the child he is over and over again. Not much more you can do.
