What you fail to mention it was a bipartisan bill that the GOP backed out of because it was watered down and didn’t go far enough to their liking. The GOP felt it gave to much money to non crime related issues like social services and after school programs etc.

You also fail to mention it was backed by the Congressional black caucus.

Or the fact that what happened with mass incarceration was an unintended consequence that was mostly caused by discriminatory policing.

Or the Obama and Biden released far more inmates effected by the discriminatory policing and the crack cocaine sentences than Trump has. It’s thousands vs less than a hundred.

I think a better analogy is two combatants agree to rules while threatening to hit below the belt and taking opportunistic cheap shots that slowly undermine the entire premise. One fighter finally decides to kick down the entire facade and strike below the belt, and the other fighter cries foul because it caused him to lose the fight.

The debate reminded me of those WWF pre-fight interviews, Randy Savage was more articulate, oh yeah.

Last night and this morning Fat Man (Chris Christie) said he didn't hear it that way and effectively advised the President to clarify those remarks. Advised as in not calling the President or meeting the President after the debate. Advised as in he said it in a News Channel that hopefully the President will watch.

**Fat Man helped the President prep for the debate.

I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 and obviously was unhappy he won, but I always believed that the strength of our institutions would protect us in the long term, as imperfect as they are. I never thought in my lifetime that cornerstones that this country is built on - such as the peaceful transition of power - would be seriously threatened. I do believe it's not very likely, but the very idea that it is a legitimate concern in an American election is horrifying.

Republican or Democrat - I hope that come election night, Americans remember they're Americans and put country before party.

Neither candidate had a good debate.

Trump bullied his way through the entire evening, which probably delighted his supporters but will not earn gains in the demographics he needs to win. He didn’t convincingly answer one question.

Biden did not make any fatal errors, but he didn’t bury Trump either.

- Given the apocalyptic scenario Democrats are trying to frame around the SCOTUS appointment, he didn’t give a compelling answer on a topic he knew would come up

- He lost his cool in a few instances and used Trumpian language, which I am sure drew a cheer from some, but was not Presidential

- Distancing himself from being labeled liberal, and not decisively deflecting the few punches Trump did manage to land

I would give somewhat more of a positive verdict in regards to Biden. However, I do feel that he failed to take advantage of several opportunities that would have made Trump look even worse.

First, he should have pointed out that Trump did nothing to quell the riots in Minneapolis, as he claimed he did. Trump did not, in Minnsota, or any other state, call out the National Guard. That is done by the state governors. In fact Trump initially viscously attacked both Jacob Frey and Tim Walz, but now that he thinks he can flip Minnesota, so he is playing nice, well at least as best as he knows how.

Secondly, he should have been prepared for the question about having no support from the police or military. He should have known this was coming and had an answer for it. I know a fair number of ex military and intelligence officials have come out against Trump. He definitely should have been able to cite this.

IIRC Trump said law enforcement, not military. Biden has plenty of support in the military. Not so much law enforcement.
