Spirit walking is the most interesting thing I've seen in FPS for a long time and is actually something people will use in multiplayer etc.

Really? From the demo it seemed worse than Quake4, and i'd only give Quake4 a 4/10. Really, it looks, feels, and plays exactly the same as the previous 2 Doom3 engine games, and neither of those two were very good. Just because they throw in a bit of voice acting doesn't suddenly make up for its boring gameplay.

5 minute wait at the shack. Their DLs are suualyl pretty fast, but I don't plan to install it till tomorrow.

Shouldabe fun. It might be added to my winter game list.

DL'd from Yahoo around 6pm est, no wait.
Very interesting Demo, the spirit walking is very neat, a fresh idea for an FPS. Graphics aren't trend setting but the gameplay could be on to something.
The story isn't half bad either.

Ive also downloaded demo's that did this before. The game does look ok, but I think once it hits the shelves, it going to look alot better. Maybe like I said, their saving the major graphical settings ( working ones ) for the retail release. And actually, when I turn on 4x AA...I still have jaggies, doesnt look any different. Looks the same no matter what I change.

If it's based on Doom 3/Quake 4 tech, that's to be expected due to how the game renders.

I certainly hope you're in the minority here; I've enjoyed it immensely. The tricks I'd read about that didn't sound all too impressive in writing are actually quite interesting, the graphics have pushed me over the edge where I now can acknowledge how good the Doom 3 engine can look, and the opening scene was great.

The only thing I would like is more action on the ground versus playing the entire game on some space ship.

I Dig it. Using an American Indian tribes' mythology as the basis for the protagonist's extraordinary powers gives the game some character. Q4 meets HL2 feel IMO, but adding the portals, spirit walk, and ability to walk on the walls and ceiling, helps stave off that boring, linear feel Q4/D3 have. The borrowed HL style simple problem solving, blunt object weapon ala crowbar, and versatile weapon ala gravity gun, are welcomed additions.

I'm sure it's fun and all and I'll be trying the demo, but honestly, I'm so tired of games that look EXACTLY like Doom 3.

I tried the doom3/quake4 trick of setting the resolution, AR and r_mode manually in the ini, but it seems to ignore it. However, I noticed that using a standard resolution (1024x768), and setting the AR to 16:10 on my stretched monitor, it looks non-stretched.

Nothing like getting abducted by a UFO to Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't fear the reaper"! Now where is my cowbell?
Damn right! I loved the abduction scene - I was sitting there jamming out to MXPX (the selectable music was a nice touch) when all the sudden all hell breaks loose and BOC starts playing. I had to unplug my headphones so that my wife could appreciate the scene.

I have to go to bed, but I'm going to play through this demo this weekend. If I like the game this much all the way through the 5 levels they give us, I'm buying it for sure.

I just finished playing the Prey demo a couple of minutes ago. I remember playing the game and absolutely loving it during E3 in May. Just like all of the people around me, I liked the gravity bit where players can walk on the walls and ceilings. Even though Prey will be a lot of fun, not really sure if it will be better than Bioshock.

Wow, getting abducted by the aliens to BOC's "Don't Fear The Reaper" was creepy cool! These guys who developed this game had some excellent ideas (Anti-Gravity catwalks, Spirit Walk, etc.). Sure it's Doom/Quake-esk, but man is it good.

One of the things that I really dig, and I don't think anyone's mentioned it, is that when you die it doesn't force you to start the level over again. Just shoot as many crazy looking birds to restore your health/spirit then you start at the same spot you left off.

You just have to set your visual options first then go edit the preyconfig.cfg file to get the WS res.

Edit these lines:

seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectratio "2"

I just used my native res as an example. You can't go back to the video options in the game again or the res might reset to the default res (it'll still show some 4:3 res but the game will play in the WS res you put in the config). Nasty.

Wow. Just WOW.

This is the game that will break me from Oblivion.

It's been a nine year wait for this, and it was worth it. Have to admit, 3DR still has it.

Has anyone been successful in getting Triple Buffering to work with this demo? I've tried forcing it through both DXTweaker and ATI Tray Tools (both of which seem to work for everything else that I've tried), and still nothing...

Wow. I was really impressed by this game.

Graphics: I had the graphics turned up on my 7900GT and it looked GREAT and ran very nicely. A couple other members have mentioned that it runs really smoothly on older gen video cards too, which is excellent.

Controls: The left mouse button is context sensative so when you approach a control panel, it becomes the "use" button instead of the "fire" button. It took a little getting used to. A little icon will come up to inform you that you can "use" the item in front of you.

Sound: The sound effects are good and the voice acting is great for a game.

Gameplay: It's pretty linear and reminds me of HL2. You solve simple puzzles that are integrated into the environment. The gravity stuff is awesome like walking on walls, jumping and flipping onto the ceiling/floor, running around on that small sphere, etc.

Hehe I bet they were starting to run out of money. 3dRealms better make DNF into a great game or else they will not have much hope of ever making another game. It must get hard when they have to switch engines all the time when the next one comes out.

Prey does run pretty smooth though and it is a welcome change to the darkness from Q4/D3. It's still a fps game but it looks fun enough. The guy is pretty funny too.. not ShadowWarrior funny, but still not bad.

For the flashlight in games, they should make you find batteries when they run out to make it harder. Hehe think of it like those flashlights that you shake to make the power, they run out after a short time, it's similar to how they work now (timewise). The flashlights don't last as long as normal batteries do because that would just be too easy, they have to make it difficult enough rather than just let them stay on all the time.
