I think I could be screwed. Assuming it arrives on Jan 12 (and I happen to be home at the time to receive the package, which is also a big *if*), then that makes it 14 days since my order. I will have to setup the monitor, check everything out, and take the rebate personally to the post office the next day to get it postmarked.

If not, then there goes $75

hmm, wonder if calling amazon to complain would do anything.

They said to go into display before hooking up new LCD and set HZ to 60 and put res at 800x600 which is large enough for those of us who don't see well. Then shut down computer and hook up new LCD which I did to my dvi connection. I booted up and my picture was not distorted but clear, crisp, and beautiful. I then went back into display to insure HZ was at 60 and res at 800x600. So i had no distortion issue, loved my picture at 800x600, had no dead pixels, and would definitely buy this monitor again.

that sir, is awesome info, my eyes are terrible too and i was worried about that. i think i'll take the lcd plunge, maybe a 19" is better tho

Back at Amazon for $210...BUT like others said, using the free shipping option is very risky condering the rebate requirements

I just picked up this monitor at NewEgg and its a great monitor with DVI and VGA connections. No dead or stuck pixels and it came in two days. It was $309 delivered and $234 after $75 Princeton rebate. I have it paired with a Samsung 712N for a nice dual monitor system. If you are interested in a comparison, the colors are more vivid on the Samsung which is a VGA interface monitor after I ran the monitor calibration that the Princeton via the DVI connection which auto calibrates. Neither had any dead or stuck pixels and there was no ghosting playing Rise of Nations Gold on the Samsung monitor at 1280x1024x32@60. I know it isn't a demanding game but its the only one I've played on the system thus far with the new monitors. The Samsung has a slight line in the display about two inches from the left side running down the length of the monitor. It is noticable only on white backgrounds and is a minor thing. There is no such line on the Princeton.

Back in stock @ Newegg. I had them auto notify me when it came in, but they didn't. Luckily I've been checking their site. $235 after MIR.

6-bit LCDs can't display the color spectrum anywhere close to the 8-bit ones. If you enjoy looking at colors on your screen as close as to the way you see colors in nature, don't get this LCD..

It is mostly noticeable when looking at full color photos, but will show up in other areas. It is ok for gaming though, and in fact the 6bit LCDs apparently offer speed advantages i.e. less ghosting than typical 8 bitters.

You just had to go and make me want to cancel my order, didn't you. I'm not that picky about colors, but I don't want something all washed out. I haven't read any reviews saying color was bad, though, so I don't think I'll worry to hard about it.

Edit: after reading a few reviews of 6-bit monitors I decided to cancel my order.

From anandtech review
"Don't be fooled; the color saturation between an 8-bit LCD and a 6-bit one are still night and day for some people. Particularly when the brightness is turned up too low or too high, signals near the extreme lights and darks tend to wash out quickly; an issue that we have talked about before."

"As for us, we will still take an 8-bit 25ms LCD over a 6-bit 16ms LCD any day. " - from the AT Shuttle XP17 review.

I'm considering either buying this now, or waiting a few months and getting a widescreen LCD. Problem is, there are NEVER any freaking deals on widescreen LCD monitors. What to do, what to do...

Funny no one that received the monitor said anything about its colors, except for one person, but they didn't say colors were bad, only not as good as the Samsung's. Maybe for the most part they're first time LCD owners? I'm bummed about this. I really wanted an 17" with DVI for this price.

Is this the same panel as the Hitachi CML174? I think it is, and having had one for well over a year, and using it right now, I have no complaints about the color.

Alright GonzoCircus!
Newegg is stocked up again!
Take the dive and buy one. I'm in the same boat as you but for the price and the lack of a bad review out there I'm going for it. Bring on the 6 bit. I'll up grade to an 8bit w/ sub 16ms responce times and DVI once I can get one for this price (I dont expect this to be anytime soon).
Since Im buying it for gaming, the 16ms responce is key!

Since NewEgg has it I ordered one. I'd been debating whether to go with this or the LCD1700, which comes out to under $200 AR, but decided that the dual input (and DVI) was worth the extra bucks...especially if Apple comes out with the rumored $500 headless iMac -- then I can get one and run it off the same monitor as my PC.
The Princeton website says that the monitor does 16.7 mil colors through dithering...Sure this may not be as good as some monitor that costs twice as much, but the other monitor costs twice as much and I'm poor. This will be a big upgrade from my Dell 15" CRT.

Just got it from Amazon (used the free shipping and it arrived in plenty of time for the $75 rebate) and it looks fine to me. It is my first LCD monitor so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm happy with it. No dead pixels.

Text is gonna be small. 1280X1024 on a 17" screen requires good eyesite.
Even on a 19" CRT monitor (18" viewable), 1280 is too small for many people.

If your video card supports DVI, then everything is gonna be very sharp.

You can run it at a lower resolution, but then it won't be sharp.

Since 19" LCD panels also have 1280X1024 resolution, they are well suited to people who don't have keen vision.

I just got mine from Amazon. It's looking pretty, with no ghosting, and sharp graphics. I don't see any problems with the color at all (not that I have spectacular eyesight or anything).

Does the 6-bit color thing mean that I can only set my computer to output 256 colors to the monitor? If that is so, then images will appear terrible. Or does the 6-bit color mean that I can set my computer to 16-bit or 32-bit, and the monitor will only display 6-bits?

I just received this monitor about a week ago and compared it to my Mom's sony LCD. You have no shot at telling the difference in colors. Gaming has been excellent and graphics look great. I'm running at 1024x768 at 32 bit using an old G-Force 4200ti video card. Of course I'm connecting via DVI. Anyway, it's an excellent monitor for the money. Good Luck!

have you even read this thread? most people cannot really tell the difference, if it only displayed 256 colors it would look awful. you can set to 16 or 32, i think someone mentioned somewhere that 6-bit LCDs can display around 250,000 colors, it fakes 16 million somehow, I'm looking at one right now and it is fine.
