What chipset is that external case that you bought? Do you know if its the Oxford 911?

The firewire chipset is ALI or TI. It is not the oxford 911. What is funny, the previous version of this enclosure (firewire/usb 1.1) DID have the Oxford 911 for firewire.... blazingly fast.

WARNING: PCA INC

Devistar: that link goest to PCA Inc on Yahoo! Shopping.

I'm in the middle of a battle royale with these idiots. I bought both 2.5" and 5.25" usb 2.0 enclosures from them. The 2.5" immediately trashed a drive I put in it. I put it back in a usb 1.1 enclosure, repartitioned, etc. and it works fine. I emailed them for a week before they would agree to replace it. Then they sent me a usb 1.1 enclosure and yet they still claim it's usb 2.0!! (I did transfer speed tests to make sure.) To make matters worse, while I was tussling with them over the 2.5" unit, the 5.25" enclosure began to hang my system every time I tried to empty the recycle bin. I went to CC and got their ADS Tech 5.25" usb 2.0 enclosure which has been working like a champ. If they fight giving me a full refund, I'll start a chargeback and initiate the Yahoo process to have them removed as a retailer.

That 2.5" enclosure looks almost exactly like what I need for a portable backup solution. Other options I have been considering were IBM Microdrives and maybe even an IPOD. Has anyone ever tried using an IPOD like that?

Does anyone know if the Oxford 911 bridge chipset is the best and fastest? I read some reviews on this chipset and it apparently can get 30MB/s just like IDE harddrive internally. The oxford 911 fortunately is used on many firewire enclosures. But does anyone know about this chipset and whether it can really be as fast as IDE internally?

I only briefly scanned the threads in this message, so sorry if this info is repeated....but, I noticed a bunch of people were struggling to find a good enclosure that supports both USB 2.0 and FireWire and supports both 3.5 and 5.25.

Here is a link to a product that supports all these:
LINK

The price $uck$ but maybe it can be found elsewhere for cheaper....anyone used this product? I'm thinking about getting one myself

Oxford 911 chipset seems to be the best, it seen by both MAC and Win OS. Anyone knows where I find the combo of this , they show it but can't find it. Speedzter 5 is good too also but you have take screws off to get it apart if put different harddrives and CDRW into it.
