Ive posted this power supply before, but the price has dropped, and it looks like it puts out a really nice on the 3.3v and 5v lines.... shipping is very reasonable.. think im going to order one myself...

Also, they have an allied, which is on the amd recommended.. it is 10$ more.. and 50w less power....

Im not surewhich is the better deal, but I think I am going to go with the 400w.

I hope someone can find this useful... Ive so far only heard good things about savingxoom

I have this power supply in my case right now. powering a gigabyte ga7dx board and 1800+ processor, with geforce2 card, cdburner, dvd/cdrom, two hard drives, floppy, nic card, sblive card, promise ata100 controller. no problems and the rails are good. course, the first one i got had a problem (committed suicide without taking the system), but their rma department ships you a new one and encloses a shipping label to ship back the dead component. very high level of customer service, imho.

Sounds good to me, you are talking about the 400W generic, not the allied correct? I think I am going to go ahead and place an order with the.... ive noticed that 3 or 4 people have let reviews for saving xoom, but let new entries instead of all under one entry at resellerrtings.. however everyone of them is a good rating.

I would never buy Generic cause they enjoy dying on me.

The Allied on the other hand looks pretty nice for 40 dollars.
BTW - its a 400W not a 350W, correct the link.

Thanks for the post.

Oh, BTW. I was thinking about the whole generic vs name brand thing... and it seems to me that most OEMs (dell erc, use generics) so it seems like alot out their are generic. Now, I totally agree that most of the time a name brand will do better, but it seems like many people have had success with this power supply, and that savingxoom has excellent customer service, if there is a problem with it. Plus, the rating on the 3.3v and 5 v is better than on many name brands ive seen, like the codogens they have on there.

I would suggest you get the Enhance ENP-0730 300W power supply from newegg.com . It has a 5V + 3.3V TCO of 220W. I am using it in my system and it works great (k7s5a with XP 1700+). Last time I checked they had it for $29.99 + $10 s/h. It is also AMD certified. I believe AGI also rebags it under their name with the same model number.

Here are the specs on the Enhance PSU.

PS: Notice the 400W Generic has a TCO on 5V + 3.3V of 210W. This is reasonable. I don't know see any TCO rating on the Allied. I would make sure it is about 200W before purchasing it. For the money the generic sounds like a good deal.

Yup, I also think that the 400w is a good deal for the money. and since it seems that savingxoom has great customer service, I am not worried about it arriving DOA.....so what is the big difference between a PSU that has a combined rating ofr 210, and one with 220? Right now even a 10$ difference makes a difference in my upgrade options.. thanks

Well I don't think there would be much difference between 210 and 220 watts. If you are constrained on money I would get the Generic. I just recommended the Enhance since I have one and it works great. The only thing about the Generic one is that it may be DOA. That will just take more time to replace. I bought my Enhance locally since I was constrained on time and didn't want to have to send it back to an online dealer.

Good luck with your purchase,
Hiral

I personally am really constrained on money. I am putting and athlon upgrade together, and I am pushing my budget hard, so I cant afford an expensive PSU...

what makes me feel ok about this one now, is that

1. Savingxoom actually PAYS for your shipping back to them if the item is DOA.. I cant think of many places besides the huge ones like gateway or dell, that do that.

2. It seems that wuite a few people have had good success with this PSU

So, thanks for everyones input.. I am going to go ahead and order the 400w generic, and I hope that this post helps others out also,

Well, I got this powersupply a while back, as an upgrade from my Antec 300W (180W 3.3v+ & 5v+combined) since the Antec is giving me a lot of trouble running 2 HDDs, a DVD-Rom, a CD-RW, 5x 80mm fans, GeForce 3 Ti200 @210Mhz and 1GHz Athlon @ 1.133 GHz 1.8V ... Well, after the upgrade, my Harddrives no longer having trouble spinning up at start up or suddenly lose power, and Now I run my CPU at 1.215 GHz @ 1.88V

InYusha,

Its good to hear that PSU works for you. I am definatley going to order, and order one for a friend who I am helping build an XP system....

Right ow I am just waiting to see what savingxoom's policy is for motherbaord warranties, the K7S5A is (of course) out of stock atnewegg as usual, but savingxoom has it, and I would like to order it from them because newegg is annoing me lately... and if they pay for the shipping of DOA items that makes me even happier, since sometimes the ECS boards come DOA

So is the consensus that higher watt ie 400 instead of 350 is better than name brand over generic?
Looking to build system with duron 950/ ecs k7s5a.

NO NO NO NO, higher wattage doesn't mean better. Name brand means 100% more. If you are near the threshold and need more power and are on a budget, I would consider getting higher wattage instead of a name brand. It all comes down to what you have to spend. Most people will do fine with 350 watts

heheh...

do those delmonte green beans taste better than the spartan ones?

Name brand means dick. With power supplies, the name brands TEND to be better, but look at the specs of any PSU

This 400w has a combined 3.3v and 5v rating of 210w thats pretty darn good along with high ratings on both those lines.....

IF you have read the thread, and see that the customer service is great, and that the PSU has worked very well for everyone that has it...

why not buy it?

Im just not into to buying things JUST because they are name brand, when you can get something with specs near as good for abbout 1/3 the price....

here's another vote for that generic 400W PSU.

i got it from savingxoom a while ago and it's powering p3-600E at 750, 3 HD, 3 CDR, promsie ata100 tx2, adaptec scsi adapter, ati radeon aiw, creat labs tnt2 pci, creat labs SBL! val, 640mb, etc etc... works flawlessly

Well, im convinced, im going to go ahead and order an ECS mobo from them also, I think their shipping rates are better than newegg and that the customer service is at least as good.
