I've been using this PSU since November with no problems whatsoever. I am only using it with a 1Ghz T-bird , but it seems fine. I don't notice any buzz, although my CPU fan is so loud it I couldn't tell if it was.

what's the noise level on this?
I have a 300 watt ps now, and it's running my system just fine, except it is right next to my bed and it has a buzzing power supply.... it gives me a headache if I leave it on the whole night.

What can I do about this? Can someone advise? Can I just switch the fan? What should I use and how? Can someone point me somewhere, or dare I ask, explain to me what the heck I should be doing?

I thought my only way to cut down the noise was to buy a new power supply, but I read on this thread someone mentioned changing the fan with a Panaflo.... please please please elaborate for me. THanks!

It should be pretty easy for you to do the mod.. I dont find this PSU loud at all, but my other fans are fairly noisy (no buzz, but noisy)
So, here is a link to a thread that may help you.

Just got mine today. It is made by L&C (AKA Deer). They don't have a very good reputation. It also weighs very little. Not a very good sign.
It also says 425 watts.(a joke)
Is this the one everyone else got?

Anyone? Maybe this got buried before anyone who bought this could answer. Is the power supply I got the same as the one you got. If not, I want to return it. Thanks in advance.

When I ordered mine a while back, it was also a 425 L&C. It is light, but works great. I've got a K7S5A motherboard and I've heard they are pickier with power supplies, but I don't have any problems at all. I would personally try it out before I made a decision on it. It wouldn't have done me any good to spend an extra 40 or 50 bucks on 'quality' power supply.

Mine is made by L$C... I didnt know they were DEER. I had someone tell me once, that L$C is a good OEM PSU to buy, but regardless of any of that:

This PSU works great. I have not seen any power supply anywhere NEAR this price that supplied such decent power on the 3.3v and 5v lines. When I first put my new system together, this PSU hadnt arrived yet, and I used my old 250W..... IT worked kinda, but sometimes wouldnt boot, and the CD ROM drive struggled in initializing power..... Now with this PSU it powers everythign VERY stabley, and I have added 3 more case fans on top of all my other stuff.....

So, this PSU works great, and I will recommend it to anyone, along with savingxoom, who have offered me great customer service

Hi, I put in my PS yesterday and so far it works great. I don't find it loud, much more quiet than my other PS. But on my PS it sad 3,3V = 24A and 5 V = 35A, on the web page it sad 3,3 V = 30A and 5 V = 40A, I don't know if anyone else have seen the same or if I just got the wrong PS.

Thanks Micael

Sounds like you got a lower rated PS. Is this what everyone else is getting? I know it's cheap, but if it's not going to be legit, it's not as hot a deal.

Does it have 2 fans or even ball baring fans?

It has one fan..... I dont know if it is ball bearing, I havent taken the fan apart to check

Seriously though, if your worried about it, replace the fan witha 2$ panaflo

I just received mine today to replace a 300 watt Antec that blew out.

It's running fine with 3 hard drives, a burner, sound card, NIC, GF3 Ti 200, and a Athlon 850. It's slightly louder than the Antec, but I can't be too sure as it's been a week. My only complaint is minor and that is that it only has 6 power connections when I need 8. Other than that, a great PS so far, especially for the price.

JMichael, you should get a replacement for the PS.

you should get 3,3 V = 30A and 5 V = 40A rating like me and everyone else.

Who's the maker of the PS by the way? My is L&C with the above rating and do a lot better job then the Antec 300W (180w combind) I had.

Question:

Should I get the 400w?

I have:
- Epox 8kha
- tdk 16x10x40 cdrw
- Maxtor 40gb ata100
- hitachi 12x dvd
- Radeon 64mb ddr vivo
- 3 80mm case fans
- SB Live 5.1
- NIC
- modem

If I change the fan in the 400w to a quiet panaflow, will the power supply itself make any noise? I stopped all my fans in my system on startup, and i can still hear a slight humming noise! Is that weird? What could be the cause of that?

etan because you have an epox motherboard which relies heavily on the 5 volt rail you will want a power supply with pots inside it, they are small screws inside that will allow you to raise and lower the 3.3 and 5 volt rails by turning the screw, the 5 volt rail is extremely important with epox motherboards and having a solid 5 volt rail will make your system more stable.. also for overclocking its more important because if your raise your cpu voltage by .2 say, then it will lower a cheap power supply by .2 and that means your system would lose a lot of stability because the 5 volt rail is only suppose to have a tolerance of 5%... once you load a cpu intensive program your rail would be under 4.75 and it would cause crashes

I got this response from them in request for an exchange for the right PS:

<< The previous shipment that we received was labeled 30A and 40A. The shipment that we received this time is 24A and 35A. I have checked the next shipment which is going to be 30A and 40A. For this type of OEM power supply, it really is up to the manufacture to put whatever label they want. Even if they labeled 40A, it does not necessary mean that it is going to run at 40A. On the other hand, it might run better than that. This is one drawback about the OEM power supply. If it is not approved by AMD, it does not mean that it has the actual power of the 400W, it might be around 380W to 390W. If you do not feel comfortable with the labeling, I can exchange for you for a different labeling, but the difference might just be the label. They all came from the same manufacture. This power supply is great for 2nd computer. For high end systems, I have always recommended AMD recommended power supply. Please let me know what you prefer to do. >>

So this sounds pretty much like a toss up, you're not guaranteed to get what's advertised. Is there that much of a difference between the two PS? Just trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle of this exchange.

Well, as far as getting the wrong power supply, it looks like 2 people out of everyone, may have. and I havent seen a response from them, saying what happened.

As far as the pot thing goes..I dont think you need the pots. The 400W pSU provides PLENTY of juice, and guess what? people buy cmoputers everyday and never have to open up a PSU to adjust pots! NO WAY!

POTS?? I have to manually adjust stuff in the PS? How much do I need to turn? How do I check what voltage is running, etc?

This seems like a lot of work... I just want a PS that I can put in my system, runs quiet (I can switch fans if the fan is loud), and reliable, and i don't have to worry about it blowing up, or break down, crash my system, or have to tweak the screws.

Even if it's not 400 watt, say it's 350w, it's still better than my 300 w right now, right? Oh screw it, i just won't overclock my system for now.

I don't know, maybe my 300w is a 500 w, and the 400 w i'll get is a 350w. (sarcastically speaking out of frustration.)
