Think prices are bad now? Just wait a little while.
The high prices of fuel drive up the price of fertilizer, transportation cost, and finally the end product.
When gas was close to $3 a gallon, fertilizer was around $22 - $23 for a 50 pound bag. Now that we are in the $4.30 range, I am looking for fertilizer to hit the $30 for a 50 pound bag. If that happens, you just "think" your food is expensive now.
I suspect that the price of food will continue to rise for the next 4 - 6 months. Even if gas prices come down sometime soon, crops planted with expensive fertilizer will have to be sold high to recover expenses.
