TUSCALOOSA - Alabama athletic director Mal Moore and football coach Mike Price met twice last weekend and apparently discussed issues related to the coach's recent appearance at a golf tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
But Alabama officials have made no public comment regarding Price, 57, nor has Price returned several telephone messages left for him in recent days. Moore also has declined to respond to several telephone messages.
In responding to an interview request Monday with Price and Moore, athletic department spokesman Larry White said that the two would not address recent rumors about Price unless the school decides to make a statement.
Amid all the rumors circulating statewide, however, one certainty has emerged. Moore cut short an out-of-town trip Saturday to return to campus and meet with Price.
The two met again on Sunday, according to White.
The topic of the meetings was Price's appearance at a golf tournament in Pensacola on April 17. Price was playing in a pro-am at the Emerald Coast Golf Classic - a stop on the PGA Champions Tour.
Price is scheduled to play in a similar event Wednesday at the Bruno's Classic in Hoover.
One rumor Monday proved to be false. The school's Board of Trustees was said to have called an emergency meeting for Monday night with the topic being Price. But several board members, contacted Monday night, said no meeting was scheduled or had taken place.
Board president John McMahon of Birmingham was in Iowa on Monday night and is not scheduled to return until today.
