A lot of the discussion about the merits of each videocard is based upon the prices in the US. Unfortunately most of the people in the world do not live in the US (it is really true). So the overall picture for us europeans for example can be quite different. I decided to do a price comparison here in Finland between the different videocards.
Strangely enough the old 3dfx products are still quite expensive!!

As you can see the ATi's are quite reasonable priced here. It would even seem silly to chose the 32mb version.

What about the newcomer then, the kyro2. It has finally arrived here and is priced quite interestingly in my opinion.

Since it has just arrived here it will probably drop in price soon. It is however quite a bit more expensive than a cheap MX. But since i personally own a voodoo 3 3000 I wouldn't even consider the MX to be an upgrade. But the reviews say it competes often with the GTS's. So what are they priced like?

the cheapest one is actually quite close in price to the kyro2, but most of them are substantially more expensive. And it will only buy you the 32mb version. Somehow there are n't a great deal of 64mb GTS's on offer here. I only seen one so far which was a special summer offer for 250$. Normally it was closer to 300$
Ah, but what about the infamous geforce 3? Is it really that expensive outside the USA? Well, yes.

the cheapest one will set you back 420$. That is almost half of my monthly income. The geforce2 Ultra started at similar prices, so the situation is not like in the US where the geforce3 is now cheaper than the geforce2 utlra originally was.
So what would I consider a good buy overhere? personally I would go with the ATI radeo 64mb Vivo or the Kyro2. Both seem to be reasonable priced for what you get. Amazingly the voodoo 5 is still selling for ridiculous high prices considering that the company is dead. I'm not sure if I want a GTS. I don't think that a 32mb GTS will have a lot of staying power so I would need a 64mb version at least, and I like good 2D graphics.
But I am going to wait for a while longer. My old Voodoo 3 is chugging along nicely with my duron 700 and glide doesn't seem that dead yet. I'll start worrying when games start looking like a frameshow. But what do I know? (and before I forget, my sincere apologies for the long post)
So what is the situation like in your country? Should I start thinking of emigrating to a specific country?
