Finished voting this afternoon. Polls just closed.

They are saying early voting is way up this year. Most early votes in a non-presidential year in Texas history.

NBC Said after the first 10 days of early voting:

The big national race folks outside of Texas probably care about is Ted Cruz is up for re-election and the likely democratic challenger is fairly close in polling.

Meh. What’s the candidate situation? Are there competitive gop races? Are the Dem races competitive? Need more info.

From the NBC link:

Some well-known names will appear on the ballot, including Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

He's expected to cruise through his primary, but Texas Democrats are hoping that U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke — a former punk rocker who has been stumping across the state in his pickup truck — can convince doubters that he can give Cruz a run for his money in November.

Meanwhile, a scion of the Bush family, George P. Bush, son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is facing a primary in his bid for another term as state land commissioner.

Bush is favored over challenger Jerry Patterson, Bush's predecessor in the job, but he may be forced into a May 22 runoff election if he does not clear the 50 percent threshold Tuesday. Texas has been friendly to the Bushes in the past, but in the Trump era, the family's name may not carry the cache it used to.

For Democrats, all eyes will be on the 7th Congressional District, outside Houston, where party officials in Washington have been at war with one of their own candidates, Laura Moser.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sparked outrage on the left when it publicly attacked Moser with opposition research.

The DCCC concluded that Moser, who is well known to activists for her anti-Trump "resistance" work, is deeply flawed as a general election candidate after they discovered a 2014 op-ed in which she wrote that she would "sooner have my teeth pulled out without anesthesia" than move to a family ranch in Paris, Texas.

Hillary Clinton won the district, so Democrats think they have a strong chance at ousting the Republican incumbent, Rep. John Culberson, who is seeking his 10th term in the House.

Senator Cruz is about 10 points up in polling over Beto O'Rourke.
I saw polls around 7-8%. Keep in mind though, traditionally in a statewide race the difference should be about 20-30 points. Whats quietly going under the radar is that Trump only won texas by 8% when others had won the state by 20-30 points. Texas is in no sense a gimme anymore and people are pissed off.

The ouster of Ted Cruz would be a glorious victory.

If Cruz loses his seat to a Democrat, however unlikely... oh, the Republicans would be in full-on panic mode at that point. Both because it would likely mean that the Dems flipped the Senate and that it wouldn't bode well for those Republicans up for reelection in 2020.

I'm honestly not expecting a Cruz defeat in the mid-terms. That he might have any reason to be nervous says a lot about how much Trump and the Republicans have managed to alienate the public, though.

In this "record setting" primary ALL the Democrats got about 970,000 votes total. Just Cruz got 1,255,000 votes with @83% reporting.

Cruz is more likely to lose his seat than Roy Moore was.

Well O'Rourke has some ground to cover. Read when he was younger he played in a punk rock band, I like him already. You think Ted ever played in a punk rock band? And he's coming right out saying he wants a ban on Assault Weapons, that's pretty ballsy. We'll see.

Probably to get some votes. I doubt it would actually become law.

Yeah, a lot would have to work in his favor for that to be a realistic prospect. But making an overt statement to that effect in Texas takes a certain amount of guts.

How do those numbers work with an open primary? If you voted on the D ballot it counts you as a democrat? My wife votes D, but voted on the R primary as our house seat was contested and wanted to make sure the lesser evil won.

Yes. This does happen but its a very very very small minority of the voting population simply because whilst there may be a race or two a person is interested in on the other side, there are entire slates of races they are generally interested in on the side they normally vote for. In essence, I don't think there is any reason to believe the record turn out is due to republicans voting in the democratic primaries as a means to sabotage the candidates or promote democratic moderates or something to that effect.

Sadly Ted will likely pull it off which is amazing because he’s a foreigner and his Dad killed Kennedy per President Trump.
Strange how a guy like Cruz who is unanimously disliked by nearly everyone in or out of his party keeps winning.

I have an ad for Beto.

Ted Cruz. He won't stand up for his own wife so he won't stand up for you.

He was on Morning Joe this am on my way to work. What friggin blow hard. He will not be missed if he loses, but you know he's got nothing else, so he'll run for some other office if that were to happen.

I love it. Repubs shit the bed and enthusiastically go for Trump, get pissed off barely a year later when it turns out they alienated a good portion of the country.

No one could have predicted this!
Not pissed at President Trump, but nice try.
