If the air had had an IPS display, that's what I would've purchased. As it is, my wife was due for a new laptop anyway and she's not big on OSX so we bought the Prime to share.....for now, until an IPS Air releases.

edit: Actually, I might just look at the 13-inch retina MBP that's supposedly going to be released this Fall.

A big point in favor of the Apple laptops is the construction method. I though the whole "carved out of a brick of aluminum" was just a gimmick until I held one, but it isn't. There's no flex of any kind, and since I literally am traveling for half my life (for my job), durability is very important. The thing is absolutely the most solid laptop I've ever held in my hands. I won't say it's indestructible, because it isn't, but the chassis is very, very solid.

I've had my 13" MacBook Pro for about three and a half years now, and the only servicing it's needed has been a new battery a few weeks ago (I'm very hard on them), and a replacement rubber foot -- $129 and $10, respectively. (Similar price to replacement Dell batteries, incidentally; Apple's price here in very reasonable.)

I have a fast Windows machine at home, but for laptops and small screens, the Mac OS really does well.

My vote is for the Air, but that is for 2 reasons:
1: I prefer OS X, especially on a laptop. I would not be running Windows on it
2: Windows doesn't handle high resolutions to my liking, so if I got the Prime, I would be bugged about the screen

All that said, if you prefer Windows, and think you can handle the res and how Windows handles it, then get the Prime. Get the WINDOWS notebook if you are going to be running primarily Windows.

I just picked an air and it's the best laptop I've ever used. I agree with TheStu when he says that OSX is great laptop OS.

Also, while vmware fusion runs Windows quite well on mba, it definitely doesn't replace a computer running Windows natively.

Unless you have to have osx, I don't see how either choice would be bad. I think they're both great machines. Until theres a hackintosh osx for the zenbook, it would be a bad choice for someone needing osx to go with the zenbook.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to buy air 13 256gb. A lil more expensive, but to prevent shortage of space I think I should spend it on the 256gb

Great, now we'll await your posts complaining about how you got an LG display instead of a Samsung, Toshiba SSD instead of Samsung SSD, how the laptop doesn't sit flush, the fan is loud, and the case is too hot. Meh, just messing with you. Enjoy your new laptop

Just out of curiosity, are there multiple manufacturers of the 2012 mba display? and if so, how do you determine which one you have?

Debating between these two also. I'd like to go with the Asus due to the display but the MBA is nice. Testing out the UX31A-DB51, I found the touchpad to be unacceptable.

Do the newer drivers fix the problem?

I use the Elpida drivers, and I don't have an issue with it. My only qualm is that LMB+RMB doesn't perform the MMB action. I use that to close browser tabs sometimes.
