Prime95: Good source of stability test of an OC?

Well i've run this program for the last two years, and to date I have never had a torture test complete without a roundoff error. Even on my 1.0 TBird @ 1.13 with no mem OC i got errors.

Right now I'm running:

Sparkle 330W
AMD 2000+ AGIOA @ 145/12.5
Vcore 1.80

This is a pretty slim OC from 133 to 145. My memory is also Vmem at +.10 on my Epox 83KA+

and after the 4th step i get a .40 round off error.

I've run folding programs for the last 3 days for 24hrs and nothing has happened yet? I think its stable but should I rely on the Prime95 test?

Prime95 is the most reliable IMHO test for processor and memory that is available.

However, if you are trying to test other components there are others which should be used.

That is why you see other test such as 3DMark2001SE, SiSoft Sandra, Passmark Performance Test and CPU Stability Test by Jouni Vuorio to name a few.

I personally do not considter my system perfectly overclocked stable until all the above test have been run mutiple times and Prime95 has run for at least 24 hours without any errors.

Prime95 is definitely the de-facto standard for testing the stability of your overclock. However, what defines stability is all dependant on the person running the test. For example, on my system, I ran Prime95 for about 6.5 hours without coming up with an error. After all that time, I quit running the test and called it stable. I am confident in its stability because I will NEVER be running a task for over 6.5 hours that would stress my RAM and CPU like Prime95 does. So for me, if the system can pass a Prime95 test for longer than what I'd ever run a program for, I call it stable. For me, I don't care if it craps out after 8 hours of the test. I'm never at my computer for that long, let alone running system intensive software.

So when you use Prime95, your system is stable when you consider it stable. Usually if it craps out on you, it does so within the first two hours.

I agree with jhites. Prime95's is excellent in testing the CPU and mem. However, I always do a loop of 3dmark2001 SE to test the video and motherboard. Another good stability test is to play Jedi Knight II for a few hours and if it doesn't drop out to the desktop my system is good to go. Of course it doesn't beat watching Prime95 throw out those test complete messages

In my humble opinion Prime95 as a stability test is important. My computer is not stable unless it passes running the torture test all nite. Then I loop 3Dmark for several hours to test video stability. If all that is a go, then a 3 or 4 hour intense gaming session is the last test. If I get any problems doing this then I am not happy with the performance of my machine and I will turn something down.
