Prime95 Hates me and my FX55

Today I bumped up the multi on my FX chip just to see what kind of overclock I could get out of it. By bumping it up to 14x, I got the chip up to ~2.8, and then immediately failed the Prime95 with a rounding error. When trying to OC the traditional way, I get the same error in roughly the same amount of time.

When the chip is stock, however, no errors and everyone in the world is hugging each other. Do I Just have a bum overclocking chip?

Could also possibly be your memory, post what you have in your bios and some people will be able to help you out some.

I could push it up to 1.55v..that's the next highest voltage option on the board, I think.

Which bios information are you looking for? :-D I'll post any of it, but I'm not exactly sure what I should post.

It can't be HTT or RAM issues, since the core is still 200MHz. Yeah, put the vcore up to 1.60 and see if it helps.

No prob...list the following for people to help you

list everything you have in your dram settings section
and everything you have in your jumperless cpu settings section
list your HTT (also known as LDT) multiplier

Those should help people out with what you have

LDT Multi shouldn't matter should it? All he did was increase the CPU multi...the core is still running at 200MHz.

true but people might need to know to help him out some, besides if it's set wrong now...and we correct it...it could correct some problems he has

Bumped the Voltage to 1.5 and P95 is running smoothly, I'll post bios settings when it finishes!

Ok, here are my BIOS settings:

DRAM Config:

Memclock index value
CAS# Latency = 2.5
MIN RAS active time (TRAS) = 5T
RAS to CAS Delay (Trcd) = 3T
Trp = 3T
Trc = 11T
Trfc = 14T
Trwt = 4T
Twr = 3T
1t/2t memory timing = 2T

Jumperless settings

CPU Freq = 200
PCIX clock = 100mhz
DDR Voltage = Auto
Chipset Volts = 1.5v
HT Voltage = 1.20v
CPU Multi = 14
CPU Volts = 1.500v
PCI Clock Synch Mode = auto

HT Frequency listed as auto, but with options for 5x to 1x, and I think that's my LDT multi.

(Side question, what does LDT stand for?)

And when I upped the volts to 1.5, P95 ran fine for an hour, with CPU temps reaching 49C, but I'm in Southern California, and it's hot in my room :-

Thanks!!!

You should run the memory at 1T instead of 2T. Also, run Prime95 for longer than an hour. You should really leave it running overnight to see if you get any failures. An hour of testing isn't really an indication of how your CPU will perform under full load.

Definitely what John said

An hour is nice, but not definitive under Prime95. That said, put the voltage to 1.55, take the multi to 15, and see if she can go

If it can run like that, it will be better than the whole world hugging each other. I could tell you what it would be like, but I think it is better if you can use your imagination...

Alrighty, I'll for sure test it longer But what will changing the 1t/2t option do? I haven't the slightest idea. Also, if I try and overclock my ram, am I going to see more a difference, performance wise, than I would if I just upped my multiplier?

Last question: 1.55v is a safe voltage for my chip?

If that is a 130nm then 1.65=safe, if it s a 90nm chip, 1.6=safe, especially with the fx series. What cooler you got? If stock then I'd say 1.57-8 will be safe.

Also Cpu mhz>Memory mhz
Then again, see how much you can OC your ram without lifting the CL of 2. If you can OC your ram, why not?

It's a 90nm chip, so I guess I can do 1.55 and not worry about it....which is good, because that's the highest voltage my mobo will do Also, will dropping the command rate from 2T to 1T make a noticable difference?

Witha multi of 14.5 and a vcore of 1.55, I'm getting roundoff errors Is 2.8 my max cpu speed with my current cooling situation?

What cooling? 1T command rate should give you around 3-5% better performance, overall. More in memory-bound programs.

Just stock cooling, which on the FX series, is a ginormous HSF with four heatpipes.

Well, that cooler is better than the other stock cooler but it's nothing to write home about.

XP-90 on the way, hopefully here by friday.

I also tried knocking my multiplier up to 15x which would even out to about ~3ghz, but P95 errored out after 15 minutes or so. I tried turning the ram freq down to 333mhz, but I had the same issue.
