Isolate the chip before you mess with the ram...

Pop a mem divider in, or lower your timings and KEEP the 2T timings for now..

Once you find your max CPU speed, then go ahead and tweak the memory..

Chances are 2.8ghz is a very very real possibility..

He's already doing 2.8... trying to go higher ^^

Doesnt your motherboard have a VID modifier (something with percentages), that should also let you raise your vcore higher. I think you should be able to do 3GHz unless you got a rather bad chip.

bjc112 - Great idea, best to follow the guide. First one, then the other...at the moment, I'm at 220x13 and Priming alright, so I'll see where that goes.

It just seems easier to me to just change the multi and not mess with ram...I'm not sure how much I'll be missing out on, but I think since I have these unlocked multipliers, I might as well use them...right?

Furen - Nope, I haven't tried that. This is going to sound stupid, so I apologize in advance, but will bumping my ram speed down to 333 knock my performance at all? In my beginner brain, that would make sense, but it seems that that isn't the case. Also, there is nothing labled VID in my bios :-

Thanks for all of your help guys

Going to DDR 333 will lower your performance by quite a bit IF you stay at 200 HTT. If your HTT is 240, for example, using the DDR333 setting will make your ram run at DDR400 in reality (how do I calculate this? 240x2 (DDR) = 480/400(DDR400)=1.2 * 333(DDR333) = 399.6 (which is close enough to 400 to not matter. This is a simplistic way to calculate it and is most likely not 100% accurate, but close enough).

One thing to keep in mind is that there is no 1:1 ratio on A64s since the ram speed is not derived from the HTT, but rather from the cpu clock speed and it ALWAYS runs at a divider (no DDR4000 for you) so all you are doing is using a divider that is different from the CPU's multiplier.

So I should try and get my HTT around 240 while running DDR333? I think I understand all of the calculations you did, I'm trying at least...and is mostly makes sense

Well, 300 at DDR266 also works, just giving you different HTTs so you can try different HTT/multiplier combinations. If you cpu cant quite hit 3GHz (200x15), it might just do 2880 (240x12), for example.

Like bjc112 said before, just try maxing out your cpu by using the DDR200 setting (if your Hypertransport frequency/LDT multipler is not set to auto set it to 3x or something) and then chose the HTT multiplier combination that gets the closest to your max clock at a reasonable voltage (1.55 is actually a good place to stop).

I'll try lowering RAM speeds and dulling the HTT multi too. Will not running at 1000mhz HTT be a bad thing?

Nah, 1000MHz hypertransport basically just tells the system to use the HTT*5 (200*5=1000), setting it lower just uses a lower multiplier. As long as you dont go below 500MHz (operating frequency, not the bios setting) or something you most likely wont get a performance hit.

Ohhhh, I see, ok...that seems kind of like a waste to have things work like that, but I'm sure it makes sense to someone, somewhere I lowered down to 4x LDT and 333mhz RAM and I'll give it a run before I hit the hay. Thanks for all of your help so far, I'm learning a bunch.

Heh, I love A64s 'cause there's so much stuff to tweak... not just raising the FSB and upping the volts like XPs and P4s, they're much more entertaining to overclock. Though if you just want to overclock fast and painlessly then A64s leave a bit (ok, a lot) to be desired.

I have an fx-55 and I am able to get up to 3ghz without errors. Who is the manufacturer or your ram I had initial issues when I went with cheap ram... Which if you spend that much on a chip you should do but hey

3ghz on stock cooling? Or improved air cooling or maybe water? I have Corsair 3200XL 2x 512mb. What settings do you use to hit 3ghz?

Yeah but it's like have a fat woman sit on your motherboard all day, I'd rather get something lighter.

I'm at 223x13, and I can't get it any higher than that :-\ my new xp90 will be here monday, so I'll try it then

I'm thinking something is up...I'm trying to push past 223 HT, but I can't even go 1mhz past it, I hit a brick wall. Even with memory running at 2:1 and my LDT at 3x. I need some communal ideas

change your multiplier to 14x and start at about 210. Maybe your agp lock isn't working.

I don't think I have an AGP lock, do I? No AGP slot on my board, only PCIE.
