Prime95 question

Hey everyone,

I recently re-OC'ed my PC and I was curious as to Prime95 settings.

I always use small FFT's to test because it generates the most heat. Least that is what I read on a forum a couple years ago.

Is that the only test I need to do? Because I ran that around 12 hours stable but by chance I lowered the voltage some more to see if I could get that stable and I accidentally hit blend and it failed almost right away. Well it didn't crash but it froze up. I was confused by that so I upped the voltage again and tried to Blend again and it froze again.

All this leads to my question, which is the best test for stability?

Prior data:
Ran fine with Memtest+86 overnight

System Specs:
CPU: Q9550
RAM: Gskill 1100
PSU: Corsair 620
SSD: Intel 120G
Mobo: Gigabyte UD3P

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I run Blend at first and once that is stable I run a few other apps just to make sure I am good to go. Blend puts stress on the chipset, memory and cpu. IMHO it is best to run Blend.

I still use Prime 95 but rely mostly on LinX for stability testing.

Thanks for the responses. Those articles were very helpful. I've heard of Linx and the new memory testing program too. I'll give both of those a try.

Blend is a good blend of all the types of torture you can test.

I leave this for 24 hours on any new machine. If it passes, I run it for few hours on each single test, to push the CPU then the RAM that little bit further.

If it passes 24 hours of blend and 10 hours of SFST / IPLFFT then your pretty safe to say its good to go.

Ive been doing that for so long that I cant remember why any more.

On another note. Ive never had a PC survive a 24hour blend to then fail any other test.

I could just be lucky.
