Prime95

I am overclocking my 2800+ Barton, and i just got Prime95, how long should I run it for to test stability? And can you tell me what settings i should use for it? Thanks...

Also...Do you guys have any other recommendations for programs to run? Thanks again...

I like to run if by itself for at least 12 hrs. No special settings, just run the tourture test,....though I also run two instances of Prime95 now and then,...dunno if it makes any difference. You may also want to run Memtest86 each time you bump up your OC before Prime.

But which test under torture test? Everyone just says "torture test" when there are 4 different options to choose from. Blend is what Im guessing and what I'll be running tonight but the one right before that one sounds more useful so please tell us Prime95 newbies which to run.

Dunno,... maybe you have a different ver. of Prime95 than I do. I just start it, click "options", then click "torture test" there are no other choices on mine.

I'm running a newer version (v23.8.1) and there're 4 options to choose from after you click Torture Test.

Torture test, 24 hours minimum when testing an overclock. I like to run it for 48 hours straight just to be safe. If you have HT, then two instances of it running.

Either use "Blend" for 24 hours, or "Custom" for 12 hours, with 2048 Minimum FFT's and 4096 Maximum. BTW, the newer versions of Prime95 are much better at finding instability. I also use version 23.8.

I personally do 1 hour tests with the blend test in Prime95 initially, then 12-24 hours once I find the OC I am trying to settle on. I also like to run Memtest86, SuperPI and 3dMark03. I've had a system that would do Prime95 for 24 hours fail within a minute in 3dMark03 and vice versa.

I would use "blend" mode overnight. I think that if you don't keep your system on 24h a day, ~8H of prime stability is enough.
