Thanks for the #'s. Seems my meager CPU power is rather limited this time around.

I'll try not to take that personally, but it is starting to cool off here, so I may just try to fire up some old junk and see if I can close this orange gap some

It would help out a great deal if I would set a reminder to start on time...

A personal goal is top 50, and currently that would mean me eating a "Dingo" Where does everyone think of their silly user names anyway?

Thanks for the stats. My new 7950x's are just kicking booty. 1 hour 15 minutes for an 8c task ?. They do vary based on the FFT length from 1:15 to 1:40, but the 5950x's can't even come close to those numbers. They run 2:50 to 3:30, also win 10, also with process lasso. And the 7950x's do not have the good fast memory yet !

Notice, when we started I had no 7950x's, and was on 21st place. With one 7950x I went to 18th place, and now with 2 of them, at 14th place and maybe higher.

A few other comparisons, my 12700F with no ecores is running about 2:50, with avx-512, about the same as the 5950x (you can compare them, as both are 8c task times). The 2970wx threadripper is at 8 hours for an 8C task, and I only have 2 of them running like all the rest, due to the 2 x 8 config in PG. The 3950 is running about 4:15. I have no EPYC running this.

AS you can see, nothing, not even alderlake WITH avx-512 can touch Zen 4 !!

Off-topic to the current challenge — looking far ahead into the December challenge at GFN-21, GFN-22, and GFN-DYFL:

GFN-DYFL
  • is designed to look for the world's largest prime, period. Good luck with that! ;-)
  • runs on GPUs only.
  • uses unsigned INT32 generally ("OCL5" transform), or INT64 sometimes ("OCL3" transform). FP64 hardware is neither required nor of any advantage for that.
  • gives 75 % long job credit bonus.

GFN-22
  • was once targeting what GFN-DYFL is there for now. If a GFN-22 prime was found right now, it would be the 3rd largest prime known to man.
  • runs on GPUs only.
  • uses FP64 ("OCL" transform) on GPUs which have decent FP64 hardware (many but not all server GPUs, and a few older consumer and semi-pro GPUs). On all other GPUs, it typically uses 2*signed INT32 ("OCL4" transform).
  • gives 50 % long job credit bonus.

GFN-21
  • A prime found by this project would be the 7th largest prime, currently.
  • runs on GPUs and CPUs, but with a catch.
  • on GPUs, typically uses 2*signed INT32 ("OCL4" transform). The FP64 based "OCL" transform, which once was the fastest transform on GPUs with respective hardware, no longer works here.
  • on CPUs, transforms called fma, avx, sse4, sse2, fmai, avxi, sse4i, sse2i are suported. In a test with a random workunit from November 2022 on a Xeon E5 v4, it selected "fmai"; the AVX2 detection of the Xeon kicked in and clocked the processor down by the AVX2 clock offset.*
  • Recent average CPU time of cpuGFN21 is ≈31 days. Ouch!
  • cpuGFN21 can be configured for multithreading via web preferences* or via app_config.xml, but still.
  • gives 20 % long job credit bonus.

Neither GFN-DYFL, nor GFN-22, nor GFN-21 have ever found a prime, yet.

I am down a 7950x, I have 14th, but I doubt I can hold it. I had to return the memory, and new memory does not come until tomorrow.

My fastest time for a GTX1080 is around 11 min.
And in my other computer, the 1070ti is at around 7 min. ?
My life is not all that interesting.

So I am coming for anyone with more "points" above or in front of me. Does not matter much, but it is something

Just hoping to push the team a bit

And I am coming for you all

I SO want to buy a high-end (AMD, most likely) GPU for DC work, and if I ever game again, for my 5900X rig with 64GB.

$669 for a 6900XT, $529 for a 6800XT. Navi 30-series comes out Nov. 3rd.

Any comments / suggestions? Which GPUs are PrimeGrid monsters? (Have a efficient 6500XT in there now.)

Everyone seems to run Nvidia for DC, PrimeGrid is no exception. I didn't really like going over to the dark side, but now I only have a few AMD cards left, all of them running Milkyway. I think if I was more of a diehard AMD guy I would probably try to get more Radeon VII's. Any Vega 20 GPU is a pretty good all-rounder at DC but they are all extremely expensive. The newer AMD stuff is pretty good at gaming but not really at DC. I'm not sure why this is, the theoretical performance is there but it doesn't translate into real-world DC performance.
