I might have picked up a 4090 as well. The 2080Ti was respectably returning a result at about the 9 minute mark....the 4090 is six times faster, at less than 90 seconds.

I am jelly. Though I might be getting one next month when Starfield comes out. Not sure I will be happy with my 3090 in my gaming rig for the game.

Unfortunately, the weather forecast in the morning, before I leave for work, is not reliable enough to plan for when heavy rain will occur during the day. Otherwise I might have been able to go home quickly between appointments to switch between high and low airflow modes of my home, and adjust GPUs accordingly. For now it looks like I need to leave the computers in low gear during the whole day, i.e. Pascals powered down entirely, Lovelaces at low board power target, and the windows secured such that rain doesn't enter but airflow is miserable.

We had some bad weather here while I was at work. Power went out for an unknown period of time. Though it seems that it only flickered off and was less than a 15 minute outage. However, some of my hosts didn't come back on and at least one of them seemingly lost the GPUs upon the reboot which I didn't catch until just a few minutes ago.

I lost power for over 5 hours. And as usual, some of the configs ere corrupted, some software corrupted, work lost, etc.... damn PGE for what they charge you would think they could be dependable. This is 2 major outages in as many months. Oregon is getting as bad as SoCAL. Of course it could be since it seems like all of CA is moving up here. one is 10 plates is CA, and we are over 300 miles for the border.

My only issue was on one host the running tasks were stuck running. I had to abort them. The system downloaded new tasks and they completed so I thought all was well, but then a little while later I noticed my output still didn't return to normal. Checked that host and it was getting a lot of computation errors. Turns out the OS lost the GPUs. Had to reboot the whole system and all seems to be working well now.

I've been feeling under the weather, so I don't feel like a clever quip. Unlike, say, Mark, who's under some really intense hot weather.

Huh, a clever quip. Maybe I'm feeling better.

Will Crashtech step up to the plate and match Nick's move? Let's grab some popcorn and see how this unfolds! 🍿

So far we seem to be overachieving. Although I suppose Antarctic bunkers are the kind of thing one expects to exist.

Nah, it's unlikely that anybody bothers to bunker AP27. Especially not those who rent rather than own.

I on the other hand should consider to bunker in upcoming PrimeGrid challenges. Sticking with what my home computers can do alone, and running them in the open, I'm a sitting duck once again, this time for vaughan of team AMD Users (once informally known as AWS Users, now GCP and DO Users). — In case of LLR and Genefer challenges though, there are two bothersome things: The random mix of main tasks and verification tasks which are a nuisance for precision bunkering (I might work on this eventually, as spare time permits), and the disk space requirements at the PrimeGrid server backend for tasks in progress which, in theory, could get the server or the client into trouble (only one way to find out).

Only tasks downloaded after the event start are counted. Bunkering is pointless unless you just want to be a jerk and hold back tasks to dump later and put extra load on servers.

The point would be to stay beneath the radar of those who rent a little more later in the race when they see an opportunity to overtake one or another close competitor, for a reasonable budget.

Yes, bunkering can only start after the beginning of a PG challenge.
And yes, bunkering takes not only extra client resources, but also extra server resources. In case of PrimeGrid challenges at LLR and Genefer based subprojects, that would first and foremost be disk space.

(Edit, PS: In case of AP27/ CW-Sieve/ PPS-Sieve challenges, I think the primary extra demand on the server from large bunkers would be the increased database size.)

I doubt he is using GCP or DO. He is most likely using TSC.
Oh right, indeed. (Though at this time, TSC is obviously a frontend to GCP and DO. And DO might be another frontend…?)

Hmm, BOINC@Australia eventually overtook Czech National Team due to the fight for top rank on the individual scoreboard. But when this fight wasn't won, B@AU didn't secure the team rank but let CNT pass again…

Quite a lot of entertainment and drama in this little AP27 sprint!

I am only aware of 2 ISP's in my city for wired home internet. Naturally my choice of providers went down (for the whole town!) for several hours in the last hours of the race. Still very impressed with my placement, running just a 4090 and a 2080Ti.

Congrats Crash! heck of a score!

Thanks, Tony! I didn't know you had a 4090!
