Is it just me, or are GLeeM and zzuupp faster than they've been in previous races? Maybe it's just that my fast RAM doesn't matter as much here.

...Maybe it's just that my fast RAM doesn't matter as much here.

What are you running at Ken?

Too hot, woke up, turned down A/C...again. Got curious and did a quick memory swap. The Xeons can't be overclocked, so the only way to improve Mem performance is in regards to the CAS latency.

I'd picked up some CAS 10 (vs 14-15) but it was too tall to fit under the massive Noctua heatsink on Bee and WUSS, so it has just been sitting. So I tossed it into Mjolnir to see what effect if any it would have.

Keep in mind I only recently was smart enough to get my MB to run the CPU at STOCK speeds, and the previous memory was most likely running at CAS15/1066, new memory is CAS10/1066.

The short answer is that at the same clock speed, the CAS made about a 40 second? avg improvement, or 3.5% faster. My system is still Hyper-Threaded.

I'm going to have to go back after this race and run some tasks from the last race, in which Ken's times were simply amazing, and see what improvement there is there at CAS10.

Turned off HT, and as I've long suspected, Haswell-E takes a serious performance hit.

SWEET!

Thanks for the stats and the organization. So Ken, is that output of yours JUST from your i3? I had 12 systems, but barely got 10x the points.
Nope. In order from best to worst:

  1. i3-6100
  2. i5-2540M (HT off, fan at full, with ThrottleStop)
  3. Core 2 Q9400, stock
  4. Athlon II x2, with a Windows Update problem that ate half the CPU most of the time.
The i3 was about equal to the next two systems combined.

Running a few AP27 on the 970 to see how they behave and are taking about 42 minutes to complete.
Going to fire up the 1070 (Yes, Tony I finally broke down) and will report back on that one.

EDIT: The 1070 is coming in around 28 minutes.
Looking at wingman times...it's slower than a 1070 on an Intel platform, slower than a 980ti, faster than a Radeon Tahiti by about 3, faster than a 1080 by about 1.5, faster than a GTX TITAN Black by about 2 go figure. Over all impressed.

Sadly my 6950 does not have enough ram to run the program. I ran a test unit for primegrid just fine with only 1gb, but they limit the program to 1.5 for some reason.
